Well, as Woody Guthrie said:
"California is a Garden of Eden.
It's a paradise to live in or see.
But believe it or not,
You won't find it so hot
If you ain't got
The dough-re-me."
It was true in 1936, and it's true today.
If you don't have money, it's not easy to do what you are suggesting. This isn't 1968 anymore. All the places that are like that are more expensive to live in than you imagine. |

I would go to the Central Coast area between Santa Barbara and Carmel/Monterey. I personally love the Big Sur area. |

California isn't really the place to be right now. The economy is in terrible shape and more people are becoming unemployed and homeless every day. Don't get me wrong, I love California, I lived there for several year and think it's beautiful. You may have trouble finding a job because so many people are trying to save what they have right now. I lived in Grand Junction Colorado not long ago and that honestly is where it's at. There are plenty of jobs (like 5 jobs to every one person), mountains and there is always something to do. I plan to move back to GJ as soon as I get the money to move. You won't be disappointed. |

Salinas. It's near Monterey, but inland, so the cost of living may not be as bad. And, it's not too far from San Francisco, just about a 2-hour drive. |

Go to the mountains that are overlooking LA. They aren't LA material at all. Everything you described is in those mountains. |

That sounds exciting and i think san Diego would be a nice place but am sure the rents high there so hope you have pretty much money, I want to do that too good luck to you. and I'm happy for you to do something positive with your life. La is bad in my opinion, too many gangs there and all that, if you know what i mean...................... thats right tell em, compton sucks! |

Wondering in LA

I live in LA...Malibu, Santa Barbara (College town), Montecito. I will tell you that the economy in California is one of the worst in the country so work may be an issue but those towns are cool, by the beach and you get an interesting mix of people...plus you are removed enough from big cities that you can avoid technology, city life, traffic, etc. |

Anywhere in the Sierra Mountains is nice for seclusion I would recommend maybe White Hall. It's a small town but it's about four miles away from Ice House Reservoir. It's really beautiful and I find it very inspirational. It gets very cold though so watch out! |

why not Yosemite National Park. It's beautiful. Quiet except for the birds. You could play your guitar by a waterfall. Get a job there. you'll love it. |
