absolutely go for it. ive done it. its a great experience. to plan it. this is what you have got to do. select the time off from work, school and other responsibilities. let your people know whats up and where you are going to wind up and when you are going to be back. and just drive leaving plenty of time to explore on your way. i like to stop at the local diner in the am and ask what is interesting to do in the area and if it sounds interest to you then find it. if not then drive to the nextg thing that sounds interesting. basically have a general place to start from go to and return place and time. let people know along the way but do not make an itinerary that includes anything else. go where the moment brings you. |

I don't think that is crazy. I have always wanted to do something similar myself. But I had my daughter at a young age(single) and never got the chance. I feel everyone needs time to them self. If you are at a point in your life that you can do something like that. Go for it. :) |

I travel by myself all the time. It is a great way to meditate. Just be careful. Crazy people look for vulnerable people traveling alone far from home in the middle of nowhere. |

It's not loser-ish. It's very therapeutic to go on a road trip by yourself. It's not like going to the mall by yourself.
The trick is to travel by yourself, but meet lots of people. Set yourself a goal or make a list of places you want to see, and stick to it.
Have fun! |

It is definitely crazy, but not loserish. People need some alone time and thats a perfect way to enjoy yourself and explore the states. You'll appreciate alot of **** better after you travel away from your friends, family, home, work etc. I think a road trip is always fun with your friends, but thats me. Go for it. Be safe and have fun! |

Some years ago, I drove from NYC to Seattle, down to San Diego and diagonally back up to Jersey. It was a great experience. I esp. remember South Dakota because you could go for a whole day and see two gas stations. The countryside in some states was just awesome and I've seen skies with colors that nobody would believe exist in real life.
Take lots of music though because in some areas you can only receive a couple of radio stations and the music.. well, let's say it's a matter of taste.
One thing to be careful about and I learnt this the hard way: watch where you eat. I ordered a salad at a mom and pop shop in eastern Cali and by the time I got to New Mexico, I had to go to the hospital in Gallup with a serious case of food poisoning. Apparently some cross-contamination in their fridge. So I will only eat at chains like McDonalds or go offroad and shop at a chain supermarket when I'm on the road. |

That sounds really groovy. I wish I had the time and money to go do that. It is with onesself that one finds peace and solace.
You'll be amazed what you learn out there. I hope you get to do this. |

Here is my thoughts on this. I was on a motorcycle road trip, just out roaming around the country. I stopped at a small country restaurant and when I left this older gent asked me if I was traveling by myself. My answer to him was if I waited for someone to go with me I would never leave the house. I like my own company, but I hope someday to find a lady that enjoys the same things I do |

The closest I got was to driving across part of the midwest with me x sleeping for 6 hrs. There was plenty of flat land... oil pumps, and a few cows in the distance... but other than that nothing. I had the windows open and the radio on. I have to admit, it did get pretty lonely after that time. The quiet was nice though. It allowed me ot think and relax. On the other hand, he has done it without me once or twice. HE said the same thing as you, he wanted to be alone. Hes also an avid railfan and would go out taking pictures of trains passing in the corn fields without anything else around. No cars, buildings etc... |

No, not crazy at all. My uncle does it every year and absolutely loves it. He doesn't have to answer to anyone, takes his time and never has to listen to any back seat drivers! |

No, I personally would go with friends, but I think that going by yourself would give you time to think and to find yourself. Its not loser-ish at all |

I’ve done this a few times. I just packed up some stuff threw my dog in the car (she likes to road trip as well) and took off. I love going by myself. You can listen to the music as loud as you want and you don’t have to continuously talk to the other passenger and just distress, unwind and not think … just drive. I definitely recommend it, and hey if it is loserish, who the hell cares. Good luck and have fun. Make sure to get AAA incase you have car problems. |
