I am asking because I heard that Hollywood is filthy and you should move nearby like West Hollywood or something.

90% of actors are out of work and the fashion world is too critical of what people should look like. Don't bother. |

If you want to be a model and an actress, you can start right where you are. Study acting, get in shape physically and psychologically, give yourself time to grow up and mature.
Otherwise, disaster may follow. |

Ok, first you need to understand what the hell it is you want. Do you want to become a model or an actress. If you want to become a model, what kind of model:runway or catalogue/ advertisements, Is there any specific agency you are looking to sign with, have you modeled at all before, do you know what the agency is looking for, are you capable of bringing that to them.
As far as acting. Have you ever acted before, what kind of acting are you interested in: stage, film, television. Do you have an agent, have you taken headshots, have you had training. Are you secure financially for moving to a different city or state for work, if its necessary.
Most of all, before anything else, you need to ask yourself and answer this question honestly: Do you handle rejection well and how badly do you want this. Show business is not easy to break into. So many people will criticise you and some may even try to convince you to just go home and stick to just your day job.
You cannot just move to Hollywood and expect everything to workout because your there. You need to figure what you want, look for auditions, FIND AN AGENT, and answer all the questions listed above because performing is a job like any other. |

Why do you have to move to Hollywood, there are lots of other places where plenty of films are made, most of them a lot better than Hollywoods. |

My goodness, honey.....NO!
we have far too many of you people running around as it is.
My apologies if this sounds harsh, but it's the truth.
I'm a Los Angeles native, born and raised, and I can tell you one thing - most people cannot make it out here.
I've visited other states and am astonished at how different it is. Ive had friends move out here and completely spiral out of control. It takes a strong person to survive L.A.
Yes, Los Angeles has amazing benefits and perks.....and thats why we all stay.....its truly stunning. But most people cant hack it out here.
Our streets are full of girls like you.....walking around with your big hopes, Juicy couture knock offs, high ambitions, all doe-eyed and hopefull, thinking you've found heaven. 2 months later, those same girls are the ones living in sleazy long beach hotels doing whatever they can to make rent.
Darling.....for the sake of my city and your dreams......dont come out here until you've already 'made it'.
Best of luck. |

Sure move out there with the rest of them...that are jobless and most of the chicks need to whore themselves out to survive. |

Hollywood is full of starlets, model wannabes, undiscovered talent, pornstars, and every other actor and actress wannabe you can think of. Have you ever heard of the old adage "to live and die in Hollywood" well its true. Anybody in their right mind isn't going to walk into a studio unless you are very lucky and land the role of a lifetime, many people have done that and crashed hard. Like anything in life unless you have established yourself, I don't care what industry you are in, the best you could ever hope for is some low paying entry level position and you will be working two and three jobs just to pay the rent. Even the cheap seats in L.A are between 700 to 1000 dollars a month, and thats something that looks more like a closet and a bad view. Most efficiency apartments look more like a glorified motel room somewhere and watch out or you could hit your elbow on something if you are not careful. I am not trying to discourage you or anything like that L.A period is a high priced city, and no it is not for the faint of heart. |

You don't really have to more to Hollywood to pursue a career in modeling and acting. You can move to any part of California and simply drive to the places you need to go. Try to find a affordable place in the middle, that way you have equal access to north and south California.
Or if you don't want to live in California, there are a number of cities where you can get a good jump on modeling and acting. New York is another obvious choice, but the price of living is equal or more than cost of living in California.
Another place if Atlanta, Georgia. They have very affordable living cost and it is a major city of the U.S where many talents have been discovered.
Chicago is another, cheaper, yet equal in oppurtunities place. It's the largest city in the midwest and has plently of acting you can do starting off in theater before eventually moving up.
So consider your many objects. Hollywood isn't the only route to go. |

Start locally, build up your resume, portfolio and experience.
Even the poorest out of work actors usually have much experience and a college degree.
If you have some experience under your belt you will have a better chance of recognizing the scam artist that are out there, and people will take you more seriously.
You could say 'Look I've worked as a model/actress' |

If you want to be an actress in TV or movies...LA is good, but if you want to act on stage...then NYC is better.
Hollywood isn't the greatest area to live in. There are a lot of crazy people. West Hollywood is a bit cost prohibitive, but a great area if you can afford it. One bedrooms usually run $1,400 and 2 bedrooms $1,600 plus. You might want to try Culver City...west LA and the like. Long Beach has some nice parts and is still affordable in the nice areas, but an hour drive in traffic from Hollywood.
Better yet, North Hollywood is affordable. |

where do you live now? you don't have to be in hollywood to be a model or actress. new york city is probably even better. well maybe better for modeling but not as good for acting. cause the producers are california. anyways, hollywood is probably very expensive. i don't live in california. |

Hollywood and most of the LA area is a crap hole!
I don't even like to drive through there. If you like filth, illegal aliens and bums, and traffic, you will love it.
I live in the OC. |

first establish that you have the talent and the looks to be successful. you can do that in any decent sized city by going to various agencies to see if they are interested in having you as a client. Be wary of anyone that wants you to pay them money to be represented etc. You'll need photographs etc, but don't let someone cheat you. Ask a lot of questions first and see a few places before you commit to any of them.
Good luck |

the short answer...NO, atleast not yet. Best to be a model first, see how you go..then make the bigger decisions :) good luck |

yes, your right- it IS filthy (not too much on the outside, though), not to mention downright superficial and fake (like each and every individual that inhabits the area- with some exceptions). yes, it may seem fun and exciting to live there- famous people, papparazzi hovering around, and all the glitz and glamour, but the excitement dies before you know it. that kind of life is easy to get tired of, among the tens of thousands of other reasons not to venture into it.
l suggest you think twice before making a decision you might regret in the not-so-distant future. |

I live in cali, yes its dirty, yes its expensive and congested.
I don't live there I only visited for a week.
I think it would be a bad idea. If you look &think about it
a lot of the acto / actress now, their famalies are in the same business.
Other wise you probably start off as a prostitute, male & female alike.
