If you are a US citizen you do not need a passport to visit Hawaii or any US territory. I would still recommend getting your passport and here is why..
You never know when some long lost friend will offer you air miles for a free trip to Fiji next week, and you can't get a passport that quickly. Your passport can also be used as official identification anywhere in the world.
Say you lose your driver's license for some crazy reason. You have to have picture ID and with your passport you won't have to go down to the DMV to stand in line and get one of those goofy State ID Cards.
It also a fact that most people who get a passport will travel outside the country within one year. It gives you motivation and the tool you need to travel. Plus you realize how valuable a US passport is in that it doesn't require a visa for most places you would want to go.
So, everyone already answered that you don't need a passport to travel to Hawaii if you are departing from the US and arriving in Hawaii. If you are coming in from anywhere else in the world, even if you are a US citizen you will need to have your passport.
You are also never too young or too old to get one. So why not just make the investment and get something you have probably always wanted anyway. If you like to travel you will need one someday,
Best Wishes |

JUST KIDDING!! HAH, HAH .. no passport needed, just bring lots of money so that you can support da 'aina (the land).. You'll have a good time here, I guarantee it!! You will never want to leave. |

if you are American, no, because its one of our 50 states. and if you don't know that maybe you should read up a little before you go. if you are from another country then obviously you need a passport, just as you would for anywhere in the U.S. |

That's right, no need for a passport just because you cross the ocean as Hawaii is a state. I don't think you even need one for Puerto Rico which is a Commonwealth. |
