I used to live in NY (north of the city) and I'm finally settled in TN. It's got some wintering, but less than NY, and not the excessive head that you find in FL, where so many New Yorkers retired to.

Try the areas around Knoxville. It's a big enough city that you can find the benefits of the city when you want them, and it's wonderful, beautiful country living.

Either north or south of it, white plains area, Even CT, and commute .

Do you still intend to commute into the city for work? It would be helpful to know that first?

nyc is made up of five boros - brooklyn, staten island, queens, the bronx and manhattan. most unknowing people assume nyc is JUST manhattan but it just ain't true! the less crowded boro is staten island which is just minutes outside of manhattan. know what? just visit the area, slide through all five boros, ask questions of the native people and take it from there. there's also individual sites on the net for each boro. there's no cheap place to live but i think you already know that so it's your choice and deal! good luck!

Raleigh NC. I live here and its great. Its about an hour from the beach, an hour to the mountains. close to the country and if you want someone to show you around I'm sure I'm no more then ten minutes away.

I grew up in L.A and moved because of congestion. I settled here in Dallas and love it. It is very affordable and while it isn't NYC, it has a lot to offer. Find some areas you're interested in, then write the Chamber of Commerce for some info on each to assist in making your decision.

Buffalo, NY- the real estate is very inexpensive and its small enough that its very much like a small town- very integrated, but it still offers what any city offers. Some of its suburbs, East Aurora, are in the country and have caroling, charm, state parks, and a quaint village

omg. why? new york is awesome even though i never been there before. but from pictures i've seen, i would love to go there. i wanna move out there one day. i like it being crowded. out here it's not crowded at all it's boring and quiet in no one's around. i live in surburbs of chicago. it's nice, just not live, like new york, and i need a change like that. omg...if i were you i'll stay there.

It depends upon

** your finances
** whether you drive your own car or depend upon public transportation
** adequate job choices if you are a working woman (same is true for men, too)
** if you intend to buy, or rent
** the kind of social and cultural life you require
** nearby shopping
** what kind of climate you prefer
