I want to move to Hawaii, but I am scared of bugs is it true that there are bugs like cockroaches everywhere?

I know bugs isn't the biggest concern cost of living is expensive, but i think it's worth it for the scenery and weather?

I heard that there are more cockroaches and rats and mice in New York. There are a lot of them in San Francisco. Anywhere were there are a lot people, you'll find them.
In Hawai'i, we have lots of geckos to help rid some of those bugs. They are more scared of the people, especially those with flip flops slippers. : D There are a lot of plants so, where there are plants, there are certain bugs.
Unfortunately, those buggahs will go anywhere no matter how you clean. You'll get use to it after awhile. It's still icky, but they don't carry guns like those other places in the Bay Area. lol. What is the scariest is the price of gas than the bugs.

yup, there are huge cockroaches there...the kind that fly! the biggest one i saw was a little over an inch. they are pretty harmless but still gross! i slept over a friends house once and once crawled on my when i was sleeping...that was the ickiest, ticklish, feeling ever...i get the hee-bee-jee-bees thinking about it! my grandmother told me that they only fly when the get disturbed or it's gonna rain. and sure enough...when i seen 'em flying i would smell the sweet rain about 5-10 mins later. as long as you keep your house clean and don't leave open food around...you should be fine! they sell cockroaches traps that work great...if you put a piece of candy in there too you'll get rid of your ant problem at the same time! you say you want to move to hawaii...then i suggest you get like a condo or an apartment on the 2nd floor and up...that way you wont have as much bugs. if not just keep bug spray and traps handy...you'll eventully not be afraid of them and start stepping on them like i did!! (with something on my feet of course...lol.)

take care and aloha!!

edit...oh, and the bugs aren't everywhere...there just around more than you'd see them in the mailand. there are a lot of centipedes too but they'll be around in more of the damp areas. we (my family and i) that a centipede will only bite you if someone is jealous of you...or if you are jealous of someone...lol. look, i can't even remember out saying. oh, and fly seem to be almost everywhere!! i don't see them as much here in the mainland but when im back home im killing them with a newspaper.

Well I was there for a week for a wedding, staying in a timeshare, and there were no bugs. well, none that i saw. no more than where i live, Bay area california.

kai
Well it's not bugged out like that one scene in Indiana Jones, but I did smash one tonight. They love the weather here. If you keep your house really clean and have screens and seal everything, then they'll have a hard time getting in. Get the sticky roach traps and put them under your sinks and other places where they hide.

i stayed in hawaii for a week and i didn't see any bugs while i was down there (other than this bee that attacked me in the car, lol).

but yeah...the cost of living is definitely more important. the gas there is horrendous. everything is basically imported so the prices are crazy.

Hawaii is like heaven. it's beatiful, and awesome. if i could move there i would. there's alot of lizards, some spiders, but besides that, it's just awesome. as long as you don't have arachnaphobia, you'll be fine.

I'M NOT ON A DIET!!!

there are bugs everywhere... but dont let that stop you from moving. Buy a nice house and you should be fine.... its not like the whole place is going to be filled with bugs. Then others wouldnt live there either

There are lots of bugs almost everywhere, especially in warm climates. They may even be bigger. If that's where you want to be, go for it!!!

im scared of going to the mainland for college (i live in oahu) because of that, well i mean other things like snakes and bears.
its not EVERYWHERE
depends on where you live. I only see them sometimes in the grass but its not like overpopulated with cockroaches.

ineedanswers
It is a tropical climate, so I would say yes, be prepared for large, colorful, and unusual creatures.

If you want to move there, than move! Who cares what anyone else thinks.

Well there they have what are called sugar cane spiders. They are white and furry and the size of a large dinner plate, they are deadly, oh and they jump, FAR! They also hide in small spots and jump on you. They also burrow in foods and nest there as well.

I have a circle on my head.

The scenery here is horrible where I live (Aiea). It's all dumpy, graffitied, smelly, suburbs...all for about four times the cost I payed to have a nice house on the mainland...and yesterday a centipede decided to take a nap on my foot.

I do NOT suggest moving here. I'm moving away from this place this summer.
