A cardboard box outside Penn Station might go in that range, but if you want it over a steam grate expect to pay a little more. |

Not in the general NYC area will you find a 1 - 2 bedroom apartment for that amount. Maybe 1600 - 2000. Sorry. |

You are absolutely not going to find an acceptable rental for that price. Suggest you look in NJ within commuting distance. |

600/month in a basement real far from the city, considering getting a few room mates too because there is no way you can get a place for 600/month. |

1. Hell's Kitchen
2. Harlem
3. Cardboard Box Under Brooklyn Bridge
Good luck finding a place less than $1500 per month. |

Good Luck with anything in that price range. You'd really be slummin' then! |

$600 a month?!?! Use a time machine Even the slum areas are pushing past that. Middle class neighborhoods generally will charge $800 or higher for a one bedroom, even outside Manhattan. Best prices you might find would be Kingsbridge in the Bronx or Flatbush in Brooklyn. Maybe Kew Gardens in Queens. St. George and Clifton in Staten Island. But all of these will require searching to get as cheap as you want. |

If you want to live in NYC and pay $600 you better get yourself 3 more roommates. |

Staten Island has a great web site where you can look up anything & listen to their police scanner too .Go to SILIVE.COM look for jobs, apartments or whatever. It is a great place to live but try to stay on southshore side. |

600 or 700 a month? are you kidding? Rent in NYC is at least double that if not triple that. Even the outer boroughs like Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island, etc. are all more than that. You wouldn't even get an apartment in New Jersey or Conneticut for that much and commute in. Forget about a one or two bedroom, for that much you'd be LUCKY to get a studio. If you want a one or two bedroom in manhattan you need to be prepared to start at $1500 - $2000 a month. |

Even in the outer boroughs, you are going to have a very hard time finding an apartment for two people for that price. If you don't mind sharing a studio...maybe! But even then, it will not be in either a nice or convenient location!
Try at least doubling your budget and then check Craigslist for what you can get. They allow you to search by both price and number of bedrooms, so play around with that and see what comes up. |

Not possible. People feel they are getting a deal when they find a bedroom for rent in someones apartment for $600. Most people would not let 2 people share a bedroom in their apartment for that price. A very good deal on a one bedroom is still over $1000. Obviously more for a two bedroom. Any studio apartment in that range is in a terrible location where you will be shot or it's 2 hours from Manhattan. |

Here in San Diego you can only rent a bedroom in someone elses house/apartment for $600. Most decent apts here go for $950 and up. NYC ive heard is the same, and the landlords there screen you more (check ur income, references etc) |

There is nothing good for that price. |

That will be very hard to find. Have you looked at craigslist.org? |

Honey, you will not find any 2bed apt in NYC for 600-700 a month, that's what most studios are going for now...
And one bedroom in the rough areas.
You would have to apply for rent stablized apts, and even then there is a long list.
2 Bedroom in NYC start at $900 and up, which is why most people go for the room mate option, might be best to look there... |
