I moved from LA to Denver two years ago and would NEVER GO BACK TO LA!!!! The winters are not bad at all, I actually love the snow and the cold. It is not like you are isolated in the middle of nowhere, there are snow plows to clear the roads and all that good stuff. If you do move, you may spend a small fortune on buying warmer winter clothes (I sure did), but then you will be warm and cozy and just fine! |

Denver winters are really kind of mild. All those heavy snow weather reports are in the mountains. We average here in Denver normally about 60 inches of snow. a winter. That's like 10-6" snow falls. Mostly Feb, Mar. Apr. Because of the 300+ days of sunshine the roads are clear and dry the next day and the snow is gone in a few days. Unless you're planning mountain trips, all you'll need around Denver is a front wheel vehicle with a set of good all season tires. Don't let those other answers scare you. We have great weather here. |

when it snows here (in the city NOT the mountains) it is usually all melted by noon. They say that if you don't like the weather here, wait ten minutes! |

Not really all that much snow in Denver. Usually, they get a good dump or two a year, but it melts off pretty quickly.
And, after all, so many of the people are the same as you...California, Texas, Denver natives, that the whole city shuts down whenever there's a couple of snowflakes.
Best bet: Stay off the roads while it is actually snowing, and during rush hour, and drive sensibly, and you should be fine.
The biggest problem is NOT the snow, it's the traffic caused by billions of other people who don't know how to drive in it, either. If you stay away from them (stay at the office an extra hour) then you'll be much better off. |

I'm with Bonnie - skip Denver. We have too many of you damn Californians and Texans as it is. |

Welcome to Colorful Colorado

It's not like you're with the Donner Party; there are grocery stores and shopping malls all around you! And if you don't like it you can always move back to LA. |

Having grown up in L.A. before moving to Denver I will tell you that winters in Denver are worse then they are in L.A. but overall they are very mild so long as you are not in the mountains. Seattle has worse winters then we do as well as the mid-west! Do buy winter clothes as it does still now and be prepared for maybe one blizzard in the winter. Overall, not bad though. Its beautiful here and Denver is an amazing city! |

I think you can handle it, I really do.
But here are some tips- Purchase a good, warm winter coat and some warmer clothes it can get pretty cold here.
For big snows, make sure you either can get a car with 4wd, drive slowly, or just walk to where you need to get.
Buy a snow shovel.
It's nice and warm in Los Angeles right? well in the winter it usually isn't, but don't let that fool you, make sure you don't throw away all your "nice weather" clothes, because it gets pretty hot here in the summer too. (Usually in the 80s 90s).
As said before, the winters don't usually get too bad. Sometimes some snow will fall and the sun will melt it in 3 days, but when they do get bad, just use those tips and relax because the weather in Colorado can change in an instant.
Good Luck. |

dude, ive lived here 16 years so ive got some experience....
1. get warm clothes, its badass in winter
2. since your new, get a suv with snow tires.....
3. learn to snowboard
but seriously, for the first 3 years or so your here, drive something with snow tires and 4 wheel drive in winter, it will take a while to get used to it....i drove a pathfinder for 2 years before i got my camaro and was able to handle it in snow.....its not easy |

It really isn't too bad out here! What is it that you're scared of about the snow? |

Keep a L.L.Bean catalog handy and get some tips from the locals in Denver on how to drive in the snow. My son moved from New Orleans to Idaho and made the changes real well. He only had one warm coat when he first went, but that soon increased. So instead of mowing grass, he shovels snow. Just look it as something new and exciting. |

It is a problem. I just attempted this move to Denver last fall and found the excessive snowfall and persistent sub freezing temps into May just too much to deal with. For a cooler blend of the LA lifestyle but with minimal snowfall consider Seattle. |

Yeah.....skip Denver. |
