Ontonagon Michigan in the summer. Woods behind you and lake Superior in front. However the water is always cold so bring a wetsuit or go in the hottest part of the summer, mind you it won't be that warm depending where you live.

Well, unless you plan on coming the next week or so, you've probably missed out on Michigan as an option for this year (at least if your wife planned on swimming, tanning and doing the warm-weather beach stuff)- but there is always next Summer. There are plenty of spots here along Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, and, Lake Superior that have surprisingly nice beaches if you've never been here before and there are many places that are either very close to or back up into woods; I'm partial to the Lake Huron side because I know it better but I have to admit Lake Michigan generally has the nicer beaches. In addition, there are many smaller in-land lakes surrounded by forest areas (most of the beaches aren't overly great though in these areas) Not sure were you looking for cabins/cottages, motels, campgrounds, or another sort of accomodations. If you are interested, feel free to contact me (and I guess it would be easiest to attach an e-mail adress to provide more detailed links and info). Otherwise, you can start out with Michigan's generic state home page for tourism.

Costa Rica! (Osa Penninsula)

You don't really give enough details of what kind of place you want, though. Are you outdoorsy types? Adventurous? 5-star?

Budget?

Check out Mendocino, California. That place is gorgeous. It has something for everyone. This area is along the Northern California coastline...above San Francisco by about 3 hrs. or so. As you drive up there...you'll encounter everything from redwoods (you can take the famous Skunk Train ride through the redwood forest), to vineyards (cities: Fernville, Healdsburg down to Napa county), to the rocky coastal beaches. It's a wonderful place. There is a moratorium on building up there so it's very quaint.

Perhaps you are thinking a beach at the ocean. I am thinking of a beach in a state park with a lake. Often they have beaches for campers at some of the state parks. I also love camping and the woods. Our family of four use to camp at the parks, we enjoyed the hikes, fishing, and also we went swimming, boating, and one had time to lay in the sun at the beach. Good Luck.. by the way.. You could also say dear we will go to the beach this year and next year we will go to the woods. lol get it in writing

~~
It depends on where you live, you need a secluded spot with alot of water..but with some trees.

Hopeicouldhelp
how about a beach that has a lot of trees and bugs and other animals with wings!

Bar Harbor /Acadia NP Maine is great But the water is wetsuit cold
The coast of Northern California, Oregon and Washington also have that cold water issue. If your wife likes looking at cold ocean There is no better place than Olympic NP.-really isolated w/long empty stretches of beach
For sun, surf and jungle you have to go to Hawaii or the tropics

My wife and i went to Hawaii the island of Kaui. We did a kyack tour which included a one mile hike to a beautiful water fall. Our resort was on the beach so everyone was happy.

Look for campgrounds at the beach. Cape Cod has some, somewhere in Maine also does, and I'm sure Puerto Rico must have some sort of jungle/beach adventure. That's the extent of my travel knowledge. Good Luck!

Sorry old boy, but there isn't a spot for you both. Sounds like separate vacations for you. Good luck in the woods. Where did you say your wife would be? I love the beach too! Tell her I've got some of that new astroglide gel. Tastes like mango with duck sauce. Um-my! Tallyho!
