Or you could avoid it because of the taxes, gangs, high prices, liberals, and section-8 housing. |

I'm trying to get out of here. Yes we have all that but we are also overpopulated which leads to traffic and it's expensive to live here. Its not all it's cracked up to be. I live near San Diego it is nice but we have our downsides too. |

If you believe California is all sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows -- then you've been watching too much television.
We have a lot of crime, pollution, and traffic. Aside from the problems stemming from overcrowding, we're also saddled with high tax rates (with very little to show for it) and a population of dimwitted slackers. The high school dropout rate in California is truly atrocious. Unfortunately, these people also get to vote. And they never fail to approve billion dollar bond measures because they don't seem to understand that a "bond" is really a "loan."
After maxing out the credit card on frivolous purchases like the constitutional amendment to protect chicken farmers and the bullet train to nowhere, Californians then proceed to blame the Governator for all their money woes (as if he had anything to do with it). Meanwhile, statewide unemployment has topped 10 percent.
Welcome to the real world.
Now, that isn't to say it is all bad. The Golden State has a well deserved reputation for natural beauty, cosmopolitan cities, and world-class tourist attractions. But you'd have to be extremely naive to believe it is some sort of wonderful utopian paradise. |

Wait, what? I've lived in California my whole life and this sounds nothing like my life! It sounds like you've watched the opening sequence of The Hills a few too many times.
This is the San Francisco category. We have beaches up here, but not the Baywatch-esque beaches you have seen on TV. Weather varies from cold and foggy every day in parts of San Francisco, to brutally hot in more inland areas. We have palm trees, and most people don't take care of them so they look hideous. And there's about one palm tree for every 50 real trees, so they look very out of place. There are some nice houses, but most houses are tract houses not much different than you would find in, say, the greater Las Vegas area.
The mountains are great, I'll give you that. But real mountains, like the Sierra. |

Well, San Francisco isn't often real warm. We do have palm tree and you can see hills across the Bay (no big mountains nearby). Our beaches tend to usually be cold and too windy to be out there without a jacket except for the rare hot days we may have (usually only a handful at the best of times, and not always in a row).
Further south like Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and even parts of Los Angeles, it's a lot warmer in summer (winters can be fairly cool and the beach will often be foggy) and they have nice large beaches. But the beaches also get full of people when the weather is fine, plus the parking and traffic getting there can be brutal. (And again, no mountains). |
