I agree with the others... seeing a star is unlikely. However, if I had to choose a place to actually SEE someone... I'd choose the Burbank Airport (Bob Hope Airport). I've seen many celebrities there.
Just a couple of weeks ago I saw Erik Estrada of Chips fame (he couldn't be nicer) & Jose Canseco (Baseball) on my flight. I also saw Sean Astin there a couple of years ago (he was also very nice). But, trust me... a trip to the airport to haning out all day would be a boring day for your kids!
I've lived in So. California my entire life... and have also seen celebrities at Universal Citywalk & Malibu & just shooting movies locally.
I think your kids might better enjoy places like Disneyland or Universal Studios (at least there they could see the movie sets & some of the many tours there). Hollywood isn't all that exciting of a place to vacation. |

How long do you want to bring the kids here? I've been here 40+ years, and only seen a handful. it's not like in your neighborhood, where you see your neighbors every day, or might spot them at the mall. Even if the celebs were randomly distributed throughout LA, the chances of spotting one is minute, since there are tens of millions of people here. The truth is that the celebs live in their own little world, in gated communities that the public doesn't have access to. Frankly, celebrity spotting is not one of my favorite activities, and I don't recommend it. The Papparazzi have to work too hard just to get a photo, and it's just not that big a thrill to see a celeb.
However, I do think that you would have a fun time visiting some of the sights around Hollywood, especially Universal Studios, the Hollywood Walk of fame, and seeing a movie at the El Capitan theater. I wouldn't spend the money on the tour of the stars' homes, which I call the "Driveways of Homes of People Who Were Once Famous But Are Now Dead or Moved Away Tour". However, some people are really into it. If that's you, have a great time. Starline is probably the tour company to check out, www.starlinetours.com.
So come on out and enjoy yourselves, but don't expect to see stars unless you count the twelve that you can see at night in the LA sky. :-) |

My husband and I took the kids down there for a vacation a couple of years ago and stayed for a week, and we didn't see a single one. I told him we should have gone to Rodeo Drive but he wouldn't let me lol
Of course we didn't star hunt the entire time, but I highly suggest going to Medieval Times of you head down that way. It was great fun the the kids loved it. |

most celebrities try to avoid the public, so your chances of seeing one on the street would be very slim. |

It's very hard to spot celebs in LA. It's all about being in the right place at the right time, in other words you need to be lucky. I went last spring, and I seen Flava Flav at a restaurant on Sunset called Asia De Cuba. Of course, the bill was $250 for 2 people. You have to eat like a star to see one I guess. The very next day I seen Matthew Perry from Friends while eating lunch at Jerry's Famous Deli next to the Beverly Center in Beverly Hills. Stars do normal things like you and I, you just have to get lucky sometimes. |

people who live here rarely see celebs.
best just to get tickets to a taping or tour Warner Bros. or NBC. |

you are more likely to see bums and transvestites. not really a place for kids... |

You can try your chances in the Beverly Center. Every now and then celebrities pop up in this mall. |

Like everyone said already, you won't find them if you're looking. I've only seen them by chance - Ben Affleck at Baja Fresh (Burbank), Nic Cage driving down the road in his car (Hollywood), Haley Joel Osment at Islands Restaurant (Glendale), numerous celebs at the AMC in Burbank (but that was years ago before they built the mall) - your best bet is to stop and look when you see filming going on, but most of the time you won't get near the celebs or even see them. |

the 2 places I have seen the most celebrities are the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market, and Disneyland. Always see at least on celebrity every time I go to either of these places. |

You'd have a better chance of seeing celebrities at Mexico's beach resorts. Kids have fun at Universal Studios. Old Hollywood isn't a place to celebrity watch unless they are making a movie there. Don't waste your precious time with kids on a fool's errand. |

If you plan ahead, you can almost guarantee a star sighting.
Check out the calendar at http://www.seeing-stars.com/Calendar It lists upcoming events where at least one star (often many stars) are scheduled to show up in person, such as movie premieres, Walk of Fame ceremonies, book signings, etc.
It's part of a larger website about seeing stars in Hollywood, called Seeing-Stars. ( http://www.seeing-stars.com ) |

If you want to see celebrities, you're probably not going to find them in Hollywood. Hollywood is very touresty and rather seedy (tatoo parlors, sexy lingerie shops, etc. etc.). The best luck seeing celebs is on Rodeo Drive. However, I was just in Hollywood a few weeks ago with my kids and while they didn't see anyone famous they had a great time just walking around. There are lots of look-a-likes and the Chinese Theatre, Stars on the sidewalk, and it's pretty cool...but not the best place to see famous people. |

I live here and though I think i might have maybe possibly seen a few, I probably haven't b/c they avoid the public, really avoid touristy areas, and in a county with 10M people they are pretty diluted in the population. See Jay Leno, there will definitely be on there. I'm funny b/c everytime I pass a nice car on the road or highway i'm looking in the rearview or as I'm passing to see who is driving it and most times........it's an old white guy or an old white guy's wife. You could go eat at the IVY over by Cedars-Sinai hospital, but you probably won't see one, and then you'll have a huge bill for a meal that probably shouldn't warrant a huge bill. |

You might have more luck in Malibu. I have lived here over 4o years and have yet seen a "star" in Hollywood. I have had better luck at celebrity watch in Malibu and Bev. Hills. |

Celebrities don't hang around any of the tourist attractions in Hollywood.I used to live in LA and saw a ton of celebrities just doing everyday things.I worked in the same complex as the ArcLight theater, which is where a lot of celebrities go to watch movies. It's a really nice movie theater near Sunset and Vine. There's a cafe there too.So if you do decide to go to Hollywood with them, take them there for a movie and you may have an opportunity for a celebrity sighting. |

Don't count on it. The whole go-to-Hollywood-and-see-celebrities is just a stupid untrue stereotype. You're more likely to run into a celebrity out in the world in a completely random place.
Also I don't recommend taking children to Hollywood. |
