Are there parts of Las Vegas that are dangerous? Are there parts of Los Vegas where you avoid traveling to is you can help it? Are there bad people in Las Vegas? Do people get shot in Vegas, stabbed in Vegas, etc.? If you answered yes to any of these, then Vegas is no different than Chicago or any other big city.

Chicago is a major city with more than 2 million people so of course there are going to be some bad places, bad people, etc. But millions of people live and work and raise families and go out dancing and eat in restaurants here every single. People are constantly moving here to live every single day. Thousands of students come here to go to college or to get jobs onces they leave college in the Midwest. If it's as "very bad" as people are telling you, NO ONE would move here.

That being said, you have to learn how to cope and live in the big city. I'm sure you boyfriend knows the "good" parts of the city and the "dangerous" parts of the city so he'll know where to move to. But bad things can happen anywhere here. There are rapes and robberies and murders even in the "good" and 'safe" neighborhoods. The key is learning how to not be a victim, how to be aware of your surroundings and how to handle yourself and where to go and where not to go, etc. You have to be assertive, to learn to walk down the street without looking scared and keeping your head down and trying to avoid eye contact, etc. Don't be afraid to tell someone to buzz off or tell a panhandler to beat it. Chicago has so many great things here (parks, museums, theaters, beaches, ethinc restaurants, etc.). It's a great city, possibly one of the greatest in the US. Stop being scared and consider this a great chance to live in a great city. Your boyfriend, and not those other people who've probably never lived here, is the person you should be listening to.

All major metropolitan areas have their share of danger. The more people you cram in to an area, the more likely you will have dangerous situations. I have heard that Las Vegas is dangerous (you know, people getting killed and left in the desert). You just need to be aware of your surroundings.
You also have a plus because your boyfriend is from the area so will hopefully know where the better parts of the city are.

Just like any city, some parts are better than others. I don't live in Chicago, but I do live in Illinois. I love visiting the city, but it is too busy for my taste. I feel that most of the people I know would say Las Vegas is more dangerous than Chicago. Don't be scared, enjoy yourself! There are great places to go...visit www.citipass.com. They have a program for a few different cities, but this would allow you to buy admission for many different attractions to check out at a reduced rate. Have Fun!

Chicago is a metropolis, having about 8 million inhabitants, which means it has its dangers. Having said that, it really is not overly dangerous to live there.
There are areas of the city where it's unsafe to go to at night, but otherwise, keeping oneself in the well lit and busy streets, a person should be fairly safe.

It depends on where you'll be living in Chicago. Chicago has very distinct areas, and crime is usually very centralized to those areas. The areas directly around the loop are the safest, as is Hyde Park to the south.

But of course, be safe no matter where you live. A woman alone should never be walking three blocks from a parking lot, no matter what are she's in.

I LIVE in Chicago (not the suburbs). I was raised here. Like any large city, it has its dangers, and there are definitely areas that I would be careful about visiting.

Chicago is a BEAUTIFUL city and most of the people are very friendly. It is also a very tourist friendly city. If you visit you will like it.

I lived in Chicago for almost thirty years... and now I live in Vegas.

There are definitely bad neighborhoods to be found in Chicago, just like here... but overall it is a wonderful city full of culture, history, and great people.... and the seedier parts of town are easy enough to avoid.

I urge you to visit Chicago and enjoy all it has to offer, but you probably want to wait til it gets a bit warmer there =)

any city has the potential to be dangerous. i've been to detriot and st. louis and atlanta and never had any problems. i work in downtown chicago and don't have any problems, i grew up on the south side of chicago and parts of it have changed. the west side can be not so good to. but just be aware of your surroundings. bad things can happen anywhere. there's been bad stuff that has happened on the north side too, so it's everywhere.

Wolf
Chicago's like any other city; it has bad people in it but if you know the places to be careful in(mainly the south and west sides) you'll be all right, and if you have to go to those places, walk purposefully, don't look disoriented(like you don't know where you're going), and you'll be ok.

No more dangerous than Las Vegas..or smalltown, USA.

It all depends on where a person lives and what they do to protect themselves.

I've personally never had problems in Chi-town.
But that doesn't mean something might happen next time.

Even the smallest towns have their share of violence.
Relax.

Well some parts of the city are dangerous. You should try to becareful about other people and always watch your purse, but It really isnt bad if your in downtown chicago. Im about 45 min away from chicago and visit the city frequently. You should just always know where your at and where your going to. Taxi's are fine to take, there crazy drivers but its ok. Everyone walks so you'll see alot of people that are going to jobs and that are shopping. Its not a bad city, you just have to watch when you leave the heart of chicago.

It's not dangerous, at least most parts of the city are not. I mean, there is all kinda of people here and yes, crime does happen so you have to be careful- but this happens everywhere now. Make sure you stay in nice area, that's all.

I wouldn't walk a block or two away from Fremont Street at night and there are neighborhoods like that on both sides of town north and south of Chicago. Chicago is very safe and the crime rates have been going down each year. Crime is in every town in the country so Las Vegas is no different than Chicago so let your worries relax.
