you'll spend around $100 a day. if you are gonna see a show or two that will inflate to $175on those days

Consider your hotel fees, food, things you are going to buy and places you want to go. I would say at least 2000. But don't take cash. Just use your credit card. For cash, have 100 in small bills (no bigger than 10) and keep them in separate places. You might need a little bit of cash for snacks and taxi fees.

Crabby
$10,000

about 5 grand have fun

Team AMP
$1000 to $10,000!!

A day of just fast food is $20! But in NY don't eat fast food!! Eating in is the cheapest! But eating out is the BEST!!! $$$$ I budget at least $100 a day just for FOOD!!

Travel is cheap in town, moreover you can walk everywhere, this time of the year. FYI the Buses and Subway are safe, cheap and Fun!

Now for fun it's going to cost from $0 to $1000 per event!!

NY is about Broadway, but get discount tickets. Also eating and shopping in NY is as good as it gets!!

So bring an extra $1000 to $3000 and have a great time.

Lol as much as you can ...It really depends on what you plan on doing ,New york is a very expensive city I would take at least 1000.

laura
ive never been there, but im guessing it depends on how much you are willing to spend each day on food (are you going to be going out for every meal?) and shopping (do you need like 29843 pairs of shoes?). i would definately go through that and make sort of a budget.

That depends, if you know somebody (i.e. a friend or relative) who you can stay with and choose to stick to fastfood and less on fancy restaurants, then around $800-1000 (possibly much less) wouldn't hurt. Otherwise, if you opt for hotels, you may have to bring at least an additional $5000. Consider yourself lucky if you find a hotel for $250 (not including taxes). However, by staying in a hotel, you can find brochures/coupons to tourist locations that give discounts for tourist spots which usually cost around $10-20 to enter.

Interestingly, purchasing everyday stuff in New York is not as expensive as I thought it would be, in fact some items such as ice cream or fastfood may be more expensive in other US cities. It is housing and hotel rates for me that makes New York, particularly Manhattan very expensive. That is why I strongly recommend that you find some friends or relatives you can stay with. Subway and buses aren't as expensive as San Francisco, Washington or even Las Vegas (the monorail there costs $5/ride or $15/day as opposed to NYC's 1 week pass which costs $24/week for unlimited rides) and they are fun to take (walking in Manhattan is also a reasonable way to get around the city since navigating the streets is straightforward).

I am assuming you are travelling by yourself. Enjoy New York!

Maybe thirty dollars for fares and tips.

Use your debit card when you travel.

Visit the ATM for more, don't carry a lot of cash please.

You should bring $200 cash for 10 days, and charge everything else. You rarely need to pay cash in NYC if you have a credit or debit card and ATM card, just in case. The only community that prefers cash is Chinatown. You also need cash if you take taxis. Otherwise, you can get a 7-day Metrocard for unlimited rides on subway and buses for only $24 (you save $12). Manhattan is definitely a walking city. (I'm just back from L.A. and I only used about $70 of my $200.) This is the great thing about travelling domestically. On the whole, restaurants are not more expensive than any big city (except for Hawaiian islands). You can earlybird special (3-course + alcoholic drink) for 2 people at Blockheads for $35 (includes tip). You can a TON of great food and fruits in Chinatown for under $20 for two people. http://www.nycvisit.com/home/index.cfm

I don't know what you plan on doing in NY..it depends on your plans. If you're going shopping, you'll need a bundle. If you plan on seeing some Broadway shows, tickets start at $40.00 for matinee, depends on what play. Restaurants are expensive, too. Bring about 1,000 if you really want to enjoy yourself.
