Avoid the coasts. Flyover country is great! |

This all depends on what time of year you are coming out here and also if you can tolerate heat, humidity, cold, etc ... give us more information. For staters though, I would probably avoid Montana ... although I can't tell you why, as the scenery is pretty nice .... but a lot of empty space. |

This a wondrous land with many cultures. Each state has both bad and good points. I'd stay away from big cities only because that's what I did in Europe and I had a blast. So much of what tourist first see anywhere is all or mostly a show. My overseas friends who have visited the states comment more on the open spaces of America then the cultural centers. |

Try to avoid the big cities like Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Dallas, and Los Angeles. Try visiting:
Branson, MO
Eureka Springs, AR
Orlando, FL
Laramie, WY
As for avoiding a specific state, it's really hard to say. All states have their good and bad points. |

Well it really depends on what you are looking for in a vacation. States are so big here, you have all types of neighborhoods and atmospheres. If you have the time and resources, why not pick one from each region. There are areas you should avoid, and some states more or less violent or tolerant of other cultures overall. In the end, for a great vacation, have a peak at the big cities but don't spend all of your time there.
For example, I've always basically lived in and around NYC.Great place, lots of fun, but if take a ride just a couple of hours out to someplace like New Paltz, the Catskills or all the way up to Niagara Falls. It's a totally different place.
So I wouldn't see or not see any state based upon the state but rather based upon what you're looking for in a vacation, i.e. big city, country life, outdoors, etc.
Now as for what state to visit, well of course I am going to say: New York! http://www.iloveny.com/
For more information on places in the states their crime rate, poulation and more try http://www.epodunk.com
Wherever you go, Have a safe wonderful time. |

All the midwestern states. They're boring. You have to visit California, New York and Nevada. |

I wouldn't visit Florida. If the commercialism doesn't get you, the hurricanes will, or the fat old people, or the drug dealers, or the.... |

There is something good in every city or place I have ever been. There can be bad parts of town though ask your concierge at the hotel(if your staying in one) or a local for the good places to go and where to avoid. |

Montana, because there is NOTHING there. I'm assuming you're aussie because you said WOT.

Stay away form the North Eastern States. Go to the South, people are generally nicer and you don't have to pay for parking. |

Don't really worry about that at all! Look, everyone is going to hate something, about somewhere, and there's always going to be a bad,or lame part of town no matter where you go. So instead of asking where to stay away from, I say ask where's the best place to visit - like Lake Tahoe, California, or go crazy clubbing in Miami, or visit MTV in New York. It all depends on you & what you're into! |
