postage, stationary, cooking class for kids.........think, what do people need to do every day? Maybe you could even open a car detailing/wash. A friend of mine watched 8 kids a week, each kid $40 week. 40 x 8 = 320 week. You could even watch dogs!!!!It all depends on where you live.

A quaint little diner/café - but I would make it really art deco, like a slightly fancy coffee house with lots of funky artwork, poetry readings, and Internet access on a few tables sort off to one side. I would sell fair trade certified coffee and strive for mostly organic foods. I'd also try to have newspapers from the larger cities available each day for anyone to read.

I would also make sure to display/sell lots of local artwork and encourage local art shows, performances by local singers, etc.

Could you imagine an opening night with a reading by Kurt Vonnegut?! Oh my god I'm having heart palpitations! LOL

Our town is just a bit bigger than that. I'd love to start a small cafe. Those are the only types of businesses that flourish here.

I always pictured a small little country diner. I dont know why but I think its a cute idea. The other thing is a floral boutique.

Try a debt eliminator business...helping people manage and take care of their debt. Or start selling Avon or Pampered Chef or Gold Canyon Candles

Do what you love, and the money will follow.

That depends on many factors. All of them are aspects of supply and demand.

Is there an untapped market in your town? Is there something people want (or better yet, need) that currently is not available? Is there an outlet, but it fails to meet the needs of your local town? In most small towns, computer and Internet needs are in short supply, so an Internet cafe, or electronic supply/support store with a local server resource might be your niche.

Look also to out of town business. Will people come from surrounding communities to your business? Is there tourism into which you can tap as part of your business?

In short, there is no absolute answer, but only you can evaluate the situation to best solve your query.

Flower Shop? Well thats what I would do cuz its what I love doing!!!!

Why confine yourself to a small town?

There are many businesses that you can start that are not necessarily restricted by geographical location.

For instance say for instance you had the best cookie recipe. Your natural instinct would be to open a cookie business selling your cookies.

But what if instead you dedided to sell your secret recipe instead of having to get up every morning at 4am to bake your cookies in time for people going to work.

This kind of entrepreneurial thinking could apply to any business idea not just making cookies of course!

michinoku2001
Whatever genre of food the community lacks at present. As long as you have the only pizza, sub, Chinese, Greek or whatever take-out in town you will do well.

Many people have suggested not only high risk businesses, but also businesses that take a lot of money to start. You could try a pet/home sitting business where you take care of peoples animals, home, check mail, etc., while they are gone. This you could run from home and start for next to nothing.
