Is 1 month too long to go to new york? |
Some people only go for weekends but I want to get the best experience.
I will have £4000 in total in april and will be booking a last minute deal, and I will have savings on top of that for spending money.
Will that be enough for a months stay?
Or will we not need a month, will 2 weeks or a week be enough? x |

Depends how thrifty you are. I could not live on that for a month as I would blow it all on shopping. |

Yes, but you might want to stay outside the city part of the time, and take a train in. |

stay as long as you can.
though, saying that, you're gonna love it so much you might not come home!
i worked there for two summers and didn't see enough of the place. once you've done all the touristy stuff make sure you check out all the different ethnic areas.
enjoy.x |

I think a week is enough in the city, the you can travel round the surrounding states. A shame to fly all the way there and not see a bit more... |

I have always wanted to go to NY, I think a month is a better length of time as I think there's is so much one can do there and so many places to see, I would go with the month, Enjoy for how ever much time you choose, I'm jealous :) |

About 3 to 7 days is plenty. It is not like London which evolved over 2000 years and traces exist from all the ages and so discovering the city takes very long.
NY is a relatively modern city and very interesting, but in a flatter sort of way than London, less dimensions. It's architecture is the main feature and is a wonder. The inner bit,or busy bit is much smaller than London. There are no real side streets to wander off and discover little niches as all roads except one are straight.
A terrific city with wonderful things.l would recommend 2 nights and 3 days maximum.
However if you do go for a month, take the train into upstate NY which is utterly different with nice countryside and cute villages.Or go right into New England by bus which is great. So you do have plenty of places within bus and train reach to visit other than the big apple.Washington DC is a busable ride also |

If you are from the UK, I would suggest you spend 2 weeks in New York and a week in Washington and a week in Chicago. All great fun. |

It all really depends on what you want to see and your budget
Do you want to spend most of the time shopping or do you want to see the touristy bits i mean in NYC you could spend 4 grand on shopping alone in a month
I am going to NYC next August for 2 weeks as i think thats the right amount of time so see the things i want and still have enough money to have a great time without worrying about my money running out |

As a New Yorker who has spent a month in a foreign city, let me highly recommend spending a month in NY. There is so much to do here and by spending a month, you can get a feel for what it is like to be a New Yorker. NY has: museums, theatres, professional sporting events (soccer, 2 football teams, 2 baseball teams not including numerous minor league teams, 3 hockey teams nearby, etc.), zoos, nightlife, botanical gardens, shopping, top restaurants, you name it, not to mention the usual sight-seeing stuff. A month will let you see all the sights and experience everyday NYC life.
4000 pounds should be fine, but you may want to look into different living accomodations. A lot of people will sublet an apartment for a month, and that may be cheaper than getting a hotel. It'll also provide you with a kitchen and whatnot, which is nice if you'll be in NY for a long period of time. I think there are websites for that kind of service.
Let me repeat, I highly recommend spending a month in NYC. It's the center of it all. Those people who think it is too long are just not seasoned travelers. |

I dont think 4000 is enough for a month in new york, new york is very expensive, to eat and to stay,we were there last year with 6000 and spent over a third in new york, we were only there for 3 days.
We went to niagara falls for 3 nights, florida for 10, bahamas for a week and vegas for 4 days so we were gone for almost a month altogether, the trip cost us 5000.
If you want to go for a month i would see a few other places too, we had the best experience ever seeing all the different places and travelling around. New york is fantastic but it would be a shame to go that far and just go to new york, i would say a week or two in new york and then fly to some other places for the last 2 weeks.
Also check out http://tracking.alpharooms.com/idevaffiliate.php?id=411 for hotels, I used them for all our hotels as their prices were better than booking with the hotels themselves.
You also have the option of paying 20% deposit and the balance 5 weeks before you go. |

New York is a REALLLYYYY expencive place to visit money might be tight but you might be able to pull it off but if i where you i would say go there for a week or two. So you dont have to worry about money and can go where you want eat where you want and buy all you want it will be much more fun that way and you will have plenty of time to see all you want to see. |

As for the cost, that all depends on where you stay. Prices at hotels vary greatly.
As far as a month is concerned, again, that all depends on what you want to see and do. There are so very many things to see and do in New York City. Check with your travel agent, or look it up online.
Have fun - it's a wonderful place to visit - the city that never sleeps! |

4000 pounds is equal to about $5800 so with that in mind:
I don't think this will be enough for a plane ticket, a month long hotel stay, and spending money/sightseeing money--but if you have relatives in New York and don't stay in a hotel and if you take the subway and buses and very few cabs, I think $5800 would be ok for about 2 (possibly 3 weeks if you check out a lot of free events and cook for yourself half the time) There is a lot to see but the city is expensive..
Plus you need to have some money in case of an emergency--you don't want to be walking around without a dime..
Personally, I think you could see a lot in one week. I myself would only stay for 2 weeks---1 month would seem like overkill to me but I'm a native New Yorker and I hate Manhattan most of the time....
For a more ethnic tour of Nyc, go to Queens--Jackson Heights is a predominately hispanic area with great restaurants, Go to nearby Corona and check out Jazz man Louie Armstrong's house which is now a museum. Astoria is a predominately greek and italian area also with great restaurants and cafes---
