Is $60K per annum good salary for Kansas?

I'm from Check Republic, was offered to come to Kansas, US as industrial engineer. They offered me $60K/year, it would be good salary here but I have no idea whether it is as good in US.

My husband made 61k in 2007 and it allows me to be a stay at home mom to our 11 month old in Prairie Village Ks. (a suburb of Kansas City Mo.)

We have a mortgage on our 3 bedroom home, he owns a 1998 Ford truck and I pay less than $250.00 a month for a 1998 Honda CRV.

He is a union carpenter and has been with the same company for 11 years.

I say 60k to START will be just fine! That will get you a nice house and have plenty of money left over for savings and FUN!

GOOD LUCK!

Yea, that is a very good salary for that area. It is much cheaper to live in the Midwest states compared to the west coast and parts of the east coast, so I think you would be fine!

Good luck!

That's a good starting salary. Look at www.realtor.com for houses. I think Kansas City has a wondeful selection of houses that you could afford w/ that salary. Renting is good too. It's a great city that has things to do without the high price tag of the coastal areas. If you are wanting a move to the US, take it and it will at least get you here, started and then you can figure out what you like, etc. There should be a calculator somewhere online to determine cost of living differences. The average American really does make a lot less than that so you'll definitely be able to pay the bills! I think you should defnitely make paying your moving expenses part of the negotiations though!

Salary Helper
Here's a link that may help you: http://www.payscale.com/cost-of-living-calculator.aspx?to=Kansas_Lawrence It's to a cost of living calculator showing the cost of living in Lawrence, Kansas (you can change the city depending on where you are planning to live). You'll see that Kansas is a relatively inexpensive place to live when compared to the national average. You can use the calculator to check the median salary for your job title, or you can also get more accurate salary data for your specific Industrial Engineer position by taking the free salary survey at PayScale.com. http://www.payscale.com/?src=yahooA

Hope that helps,

That's not bad for an industrial engineer. If you were mechanical or aersospace then that would not be very good.

Cowboy
yes, it is good.

$60k per year for a single person is VERY good money for someone living in Kansas. KS is cheap which means you will have a lot more money to spend. If you go to California, Florida, Connecticut or Colorado though, 60K will not get you even close as much as it will in KS.

It is a fair salary - the cost of living is low in Kansas. You could live relatively comfortable. If they are offering relocation expenses that is even better!

60k a year is great salary anywhere. in the US except New york, San Diego, San Francisco, and Hawaii.

thts 30K over wut the average american makes a year so id say ur doing pretty good!!!

cz73
That's pretty decent, especially if you are just supporting yourself and there is chance for promotions.

For an engineer who's right out of college yes. Not sure they may be low balling you. Of course what are the benifits, paying for you to move here? Salary.com may help.
