Is Boston the worst city to drive in?

As a daily commuter through the street of Boson, I feel like I am in a battle scene from the movie Braveheart. It is a free-for-all at every intersection. I feel that my life expectancy is being cut dramatically short due to the daily commute. I would stand a better chance if I stayed home and smoked cigarettes. Is boston the worst city to drive in or are there any cities that put Boston to shame?

So I've heard, but I love it, I guess because I grew up near an amusement part, so to me it's just like a rollercoaster - I'm used to it... They don't call Boston "The Hub" for nothing.

I've heard NYC is pretty bad too, but I think it's just boring - Manhattan is laid out like a grid, so it's red light after red light after red light...

I've heard Philly is just as bad as Boston, but I tend to think all big cities are just a mess these days.

Los Angles, the whole county is so bad, that you have to give yourself an extra 30 minutes or more and still hope you get there on time and that's on the interstate. My son was 45 minutes late for my dads funeral and he left 5 minutes after us. We got there 30 minutes early. It's just terrible, plus they don't have much at all in the way of public transportation.

Boston's pretty bad, agreed, but i think LA and Manhattan win when it comes to HORRIBLE driving experiences.

NEW YORK IS BY FAR THE WORST!!!

Boston is horrible due to the confusing winding roads and many one way streets. Snow makes the road signs and names hard or impossible to read. Most drivers are crazy and traffic is amazing slow on the highways on peak hours. like veeerry slow. i don't think you will die from it though. just got to be patient here!

Maybe I'm just used to driving around Boston, but I find NYC much worse. I was in NYC yesterday, it was a relief to get back last night. Course it might have been the crazy Giants fans, and I do have all those Red Sox stickers on my car.......?

No Boston isn't the worst...NYC can be pretty bad from my experience.

No, at least in Boston people are courteous and have decency; not when you drive in Florida, the streets are crowded the drivers don't have any courtesy at all; some drivers are uninsured, including the motorcycles (cyclist ride without a helmet) - is like Florida is not part of the USA - it feels as if you were in another remote place. A few years ago, Mass. adopted a motto "A Little Courtesy Won't Kill".... I'd say that Florida is the worst - definetly it should apply to other states such as Florida. I've never seen a 70 car accident in my entire life! The Movie Braveheart - just another movie!!

It's the worst one I've driven in, but I assume NYC is worse. I drove in Boston once and took the train in every other time I visited!

Yes. Your analogy is PERFECT. Well Said! Thank you!

I grew up in LA, CALIF, where, thank God, one learns how to be a good driver -

Boston is worse than London. Or Italy for that matter.

Norfolk, Va is another 'take your life in your hands' place to drive.

Alburquerqe, NM was so scary, I kept on driving and never did stop.

While I lived in NC, one could always guess the maniac on the road "must be from Tennessee" - and it was always the correct guess. So I stay out of Tenneessee.....

just me
The entire state of Massachusetts is the worst!!

I've never driven in NYC but I have driven in Boston, Chicago, Houston, LA and other big cities. I would have to say Boston is the worst.

Wild Sage
No way, NYC is much worse! Still, Boston is pretty bad. I recommend that you take the T instead of driving.

jetsfan5569
I've been to Boston , it's better than driving in nyc where I live.

PRINCESSTEE
no. since the big dig finnaly finished, its not as bad as it used to be

YES YES YES!!!!

Los Angeles is pretty bad. but one can never really know unless they've lived in places like boston, la, new york, and can compare. its up to everyon'es own view point and experiences. apparently all the cities listed here are pretty bad. I know here in LA you can sit in traffic for WAY too long. an hour and a half drive can easily be a 3 hour drive. The drive from my place to work (i work near LAX...yay) and back is 15 minutes. BUT with traffic, it usually takes me about 35-40 minutes to get home. :-/ I cant imagine traffic in the snow with a lot of one-way streets though, as in boston, THAT would probably drive me to stay home and smoke ciggies too. and i dont even smoke. If you live in Boston, (not only am i envious) but I HIGHLY recommend you take the T, the public transportation. crowded at times, but its way better than traffic.
