Detroit is the most dangerous city in the United States of America and in the State of Michigan. Flint, Michigan is ranked in the top five most dangerous city in America as well. |

Detroit gets a lot of bad publicity. Like the article listing it as the most dangerous place to live. There are areas in Detroit that are really bad and most people avoid and this is where the high crime rates come from (which may be skewed, like all statistics, if you actually read what they are based on). The downtown area needs some work to fill the abandon buildings (which is being done). But there are many safe places to go, sports arenas, casinos, many clubs, bars and restaurants, theaters, etc. I go downtown almost every weekend and have never had a problem or felt unsafe. I have also lived in New York City and Chicago. While these 2 cities are in much better shape as a whole, I feel just as safe in Downtown Detroit as I have in both. I have also been approached by way more homeless people begging for money in Chicago and New York than Detroit, which isn't necessarily dangerous but is very annoying. You should definitely visit Detroit sometime in the summer when it isn't cold and just walk around downtown there are many beautiful old architechually significant buildings to look at and an awesome riverfront park! |

If you are not connected to the drug trade you will not be shot except by a Doctor with a load of penecillian after a visit.
Most shootings are drug related. That means if you don;t do drugs, or have any family members who do drugs, you will not be harmed.
There are always exceptions to the above statement, but all-in-all no drugs, no death. |

No its not dangerous if you dont play with fire(gangs, drugs etc.) I was here 18 years never been harmed without me causing it, I just hang ou with people I go to school with and family, People predict the crime rate to be high because its barely jobs up here. and I never been to the N.O but I heard they have crip and bloods so any cit that have gangs that fight over territory and colors is going to be a bad city. |

No, when I moved here everyone were like OMG it's really dangerous be careful and all that, so I was scared, but when I got here I realized it's an awesome place, ok it's not New York City, streets are not crowded and there's not a big "luxury" but people are so nice, there are some "dangerous" downtowns but I never go there and even if I did, I think it would not be as dangerous as people say it is :) |

Certain areas of Detroit are fine, like downtown, or by the Stadiums. Other areas are just simply dangerous and or seedy. I look at it this way, if all the homes and businesses have bars on the windows, it's probably not somewhere I want to stop and get out of the car. |

i love this city. as i'm sure you've already figured out, it's not nearly as bad as the media would have you believe. just like any big city, yes, it does have areas that are a little more dangerous than others. though i have never felt threatened anywhere in the city. downtown is really starting to make a comeback to it's glory days. it's a fun place to be with a lot of good people. trouble won't just find you (usually), you have to make it. |

I never once been mugged, shot at, or even approached in a threatening way by anyone in Detroit ever, and i spent most of my childhood on the east side next to the city airport.
But in Miami Florida i had to fight off some Dominican guy who tried to attack me with a broken beer bottle.
Makes you wonder what places really are the most dangerous cities in America. |

I lived in MI for my whole life and I would walk the streets of Detroit in some fear but not as much fear as I would to even drive in Saginaw MI, That is the town you need to stay from!! |

I agree about the murders deal. Still, would you really want to live in an area where drug dealers and gangs proliferate? If you've ever been near a drug corner, you'd know they're terribly scary, dangerous places. You don't see people walking around, it's all run down, and when you get near the corner, you'll see spotters and big guys presumably near guns...yeah, not somewhere you want to be near too. |

I passed through Detroit once. I was only there for about a minute or two and it was really, really bad. We drove through this one part of the city where we were afraid to even stop to use the bathroom.
As long as Robocop is on patrol, things should be cool. lol |
