Detroit is a city that I grew up in. I will not bash my home town but, I will say this Detroit is no Chicago.
Some how we never recovered from the riots in 1967, the city has a cloud of prejudice so thick wrapped around it, that the down river rednecks choke on their own created hipocrisy. I would never suggest this place by raised hands, affirming lovely, but I will say Detroit has a long way to go. |

I can. It depends on what part of the city that you go to. I live south of the city by about a half an hour. I go there to the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Science Museum, I see concerts at the Fox theatre. If you venture outside the bright lights though it is not a very nice place to be and one I'd prefer not to be in. But why would you want to go into the neighborhoods anyhow? Its not like they offer entertainment. |

I was born and raised in Detroit and it's not all bad. It has it's good and it's bad just like any other city. You just have to know where to go or have a good guide. But honestly Detroit has always had a bad rep. and the media and *** holes that knock it without really knowing anything about it! |

Some parts. The Detroit zoo and Opera House are nice areas but the boarded up areas aren't. |

Downtown Detroit itself used to not be all that pretty. In the past few years the city has made a big effort to clean it up and they have done a great job doing it. Now if you go to Detroit, the beautfiul places to go are actually around the city like the suburbs such as Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Canton, and Grosse Point area. They are very quaint. If you go further west you will come to the countryside where you will find Ann Arbor (not but a 45 minute drive) where it is really hilly and has the college town feel. The best time to visit Detroit is in the summer months, especially if you are coming from the south because you have the nice breezes and the temperature rarely goes above 80 degrees. |

LOL!! Well,it depends what part you are in.Personally I wouldn't want to be caught on Woodword Ave after dark!! LOL,I have been there many, many times usually for concerts, and let me tell ya,the air stinks, there was a couch in the road!! (I kid you not) and LOT'S of bums!!! I am from about 3 hours north of there. They do have some GOOD malls though! ;) |

Lived here several years now. There are definitely great things about the city but I can't bring myself to call it "lovely". The high crime rate is the downfall. |

Detroit is lovely as you fly overhead at 20,000 feet. |

I'm curious to what part of Detroit Davedebo lives in. I lived there for over 20 years and 80% of it was always pretty dangerous to me. Corruption is the main problem though. If cops are willing to turn their back, you got a problem. |

Yea, well I guess it mainly depends on what type of person u r, and what u like to do for fun, and how u like to live, raise a family, ect. It's not for everyone, I moved up here fr. TN, and lord I fear for my life, b/c of all the nonsence that went on back in the day. |

If you have the choice between Detroit and Beirut, go to Beirut...You'll be safer...Beirut is a blown up, burned out city but is easier to look at than Detroit.
Take a good long look at Detroit America...They keep electing the same tired politicians who have no clue how to resurrect a city...If you keep doing the same things you've always done, you're going to keep getting what you've always gotten. |

Yes Detroit is a lovely city. There are areas that you wouldn't want to go to but it's like that in any big city. There are nice places to go to. Greek Town is nice and has a lot of action. There's the whole area on Woodward Ave. where Comerica Park (Tigers) and Ford Field (Lions) are located that is safe and nice. Wayne State University campus is nice. Mexican Town is a nice place to go. The area on the riverfront where the Renaissance Center and Cobo Hall are is nice. The Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Public Library, and Detroit Science Center area is nice. There's the Compuware building where the Hard Rock Cafe is that's a nice area. Anybody who puts down Detroit and bad mouths it probably has never been there. |

I will be honest, I have lived near Detroit my whole life and there are definitely many parts I am scared to drive to alone. But the area with the Theaters, Museums, Stadiums, Greek Town and Wayne State University are all very nice places and have lots of stuff to do |

I live outside of Detroit. It's not doing too good with the failing automoblie industry. I wish I could say it was a nice city, but it really isn't safe. |

Although I am originally from the Detroit Area, I do not recommend my friends to visit Detroit because you can see everything you want to see in Detroit in one day and at the end of the day, you would have thought it was the most boringest trip you have ever seen. I love Detroit but I could never live there again. |
