The media image one has of "Hollywood" is more likely to be found in the Beverly Hills area. Hollywood is kind of at the bottom of its glamor cycle, I anticipate over the next few years it will redevelop into something of its former self.. |

Hollywood is not beautiful. Downtown Hollywood is even kind of run down looking with lots of strange people. It's an interesting place to visit for a few hours to see the Chinese Mann Theater, the Hollywood Walk of Fame if you are interested in movie stars.
However, it is definitely not beautiful. |

Everyone who's answered has a pretty accurate description of Hollywood, but no one really mentioned the Hollywood Hills. Even though there's nothing touristy about the hills, it's fun to try to meet celebrities who live there. You can park your car, and look for an open house to go to or something.
Otherwise, orange county, and west la county are the nicest places to go when in LA. |

honestly, i work a block from the walk of fame and often wonder if the tourists go home dissapointed, i guess if you plan a trip during the oscars or soemthing exciting like that it would be a lot better, but ordinarily you are just gonna see the stars, old hotels, street kids and a LOT of people and traffic, i wouldnt call it beautiful, but definitely interesting |

Who said it was beautiful?? There are much prettier, and more beautiful places in the So. Cal area than Hollywood. I think it IS worth a visit though...you have to see it at least once. It makes for a very interesting visit, and a fun place to people watch as well. You should at least see the Mann's Chinese Theater with all the footprints/handprints of the stars and walk the streets looking at the stars on the sidewalk. Some good tourist type gift shops, a Disney store, a mall, movie theaters, restaurants, etc. |

It's not really all that great. Hollywood has a lot of nice restaurants and clubs, but the surrounding LA area is trashy and not all that great. It's worth a visit if you plan on going to the nicer areas. |

Hollywood is not beautiful, it's basically what Times Square used to before its makeover. The nightlife is very good (clubs etc...) but you should just do the tourist things, see Mann's Chinese etc.. Los Angeles is a unique place and worth a visit, but it isn't as centralized as many cities. Places are very spread out - it is made up of neighborhoods/districts, each very much it's own area. |

Hollywood is well worth a visit but it is far from beautiful. If you you visit LA try and explore other parts of California. There are some really beautiful beaches. |

West Hollywood is still pretty upscale and nice. And Beverly Hills is very glamorous.
However, Central Hollywood is gritty and rundown. There are a lot of drug dealers and prostitutes in the area. Unless you really care about seeing the glorified sidewalk that is the "Walk of Fame" and visiting carnival museums like Ripley's Believe It Or Not...there are far more interesting places to go in in the L.A. area:
Santa Monica, Venice, and Malibu beaches...the Getty Center...Universal, WB, and NBC studios...Old Pasadena...the Disneyland Resort...Aquarium of the Pacific...to name a few. |

may be one visit, but besides on like oscar night and other events like that...it's actually kind of gross, and there are a lot of strange people there. if you go to hollywood be sure to visit surrounding areas like burbank, hunnington beach, pasadina, santa monica....much much better than holly wood. |
