I lived there for 13 years. It's not bad. I liked Texas, people there are more friendly then anywhere else I've lived. It's near the ocean and really flat. Housing isn't bad and taxes are fairly low. Good traditional Mexican food as well. Overall, i enjoyed my time there. |

I was born and rasied in Texas in a small community 30 miles outside of Houston named Splendora,Tx.I used to live on AldineMailRoute&Chrisman in a trailer park.My baby sister who is now 22 she was rasied and attended school in the Greenspoint area. She is now a hoodlum,Houston is a bad place to live and grow up in,please dont move here with your childern Houston will corrupt there minds and turn them into criminals like the TDCJ(Texas Department Criminal Justice System)they will murder a father and leave his child fatherless, then feel bad about it and give her a check every month to say I'm Sorry for screwing up your childhood.Texas is a Dick *** State, please dont move here!!! |

It is if you perversely enjoy traffic jams, insufferable heat and humidity and a staggering crime rate. Sorry Houstonians -- but you know it's true ! |

Nope. Everything is way too spaced out and commutes are the longest and most expensive in the country. The nightlife does suck compared to other places, Austin has a much better night life and as bad as Dallas is, it also possibly has a better nightlife.
The problem with Houston and the state of texas are the conservatives, especially the very religious ones who control everything, who put the big businesses above quality of life. The music scene here is god awful, it's much better in Austin. Now not all conservaties are like that but many are in Houston.
There really is nothing unique to Houston that you really cannot find anywhere else. Since its nickname is "Space City" why didn't Houston build and model its city after the slogan? And please do not say Nasa because it sucks.
Now it is good to live for the low housing, job opportunities, diversity but there are so many more interesting places to go in this country. |

Ugh, is that your only choice? I lived in the Houston area for about 14 years and I hated it!
I guess it depends on what you want (urban, burbs, barrio, ghetto, white trash redneck-ville, etc.) Houston has plenty of all that, but the only really nice neighborhoods are incredibly expensive, and not particularly handy to anything else in town. Houston had no zoning or planning for most of its development, and has experienced quite a bit of shift in ethnic make-up, crime rate, infrastructure development, etc. all over town. That's why when you drive around Houston, there is really no way to get from point A to point B without crossing through some pretty slummy areas and experiencing traffic jams.
If you have school-age children, you might find this website helpful in researching the various Houston school districts.

Do NOT trust a real estate agent. They won't tell you the truth about subsidence, flooding, crime, bad schools, etc. If you will e-mail me and tell me more what you are looking for, I will try to help, but I can't be more specific in this response without more to go on. |

Oh my gosh.......NO!
Was born and raised there (now 51). Left in 1993 to live in a small town in south texas. Will never, never, never go back to Houston to live. Don't even like to visit! |

Not really. The only reason to ever move to or live in Houston is for a job, and MAYBE a relationship. If you have a choice, go somewhere else. Even though it's a city, there isn't that much to do. And the nightlife SUCKS. |

In a word: no!
It might be on a list of the WORST places to live!
20 years ago maybe.
Ever since the Katrina invasion, gangs & greedy developers it's gone to hell!
Also listen to "Arklatex" answer~
FYI San Antonio is MUCH worse!
AND: the nightlife DOES suck as some 1 else said.
*Just b/c u were born & raised in this hell hole DOES NOT mean you have to like it. In fact it's more reason to despise it. Lol.* |

This is one of the WORST places to live if you have a pulse.
If you are maybe on your deathbed and don't have anywhere to go, then yeah, come on over, we have a great medical facility, best in the world. But... If they make you all better, then get the hell out while you can!! |
