Too early to tell right now, but we are in the cone. |

No. Only coastal area would need to evacuate. New Orleans evacuates because the city sits below sea level and storm surges can cause it to flood. If you're above sea level and at least five miles from the shore, I can't imagine why you would need to evacuate. Just be prepared for the storm and keep an eye on the local news.
An easy way to track Ike is with http://www.USAMediaGuide.com. It has a special section of links to:
--Ike's projected path
--National Hurricane Center and local news coverage
--hurricane preparation tips
--live streaming webcams
--ready.gov and the Red Cross
--other Ike-related stuff. |

Way too early to tell. The track has it heading for us, but it has been shifting westward and southward for the past week.
In any case, your location in the area would determine whether you would evacuate, based on the hurricane strength.
I'm 60 miles inland and stocked and supplied. The cars go in the garage and we're staying. |

If it keeps coming the way that they say it's coming. But hurricanes can turn at the last minute. |

Its a little early to tell yet. Listen to your local weather and news stations. I just got thru the aftermath week with "Gustav" in southern Louisiana. It looks like a war zone in some areas with the trees that came down in houses and yards. There are some people who will not have electricity for weeks. But ya know, we are still very blessed with no major loss of life.

Only if it is a manditory evecuation, because I have wayyy too many animals in my house, and really nowhere to take them,so We will have to stay,as much as I would like to evecuate,we just cant.
But it is still to early to tell, and the stupid news makes all of Houston think a hurricane is coming *cough* gustav, and then NOTHING happens,it just pisses me off. |

Depends on how close you are to the coast. If you're in the South, say Clear Lake, you might need to evacuate. The areas closer to Galveston would probably evacuate. Maybe not the North, West, Northwest. I dunno, we'll just have to see how bad it gets. |

As of Monday, September 08, 2008, the Houston METRO Traffic Service has begun planning evacuation routes of the counties of Harris and Galveston. These are set for activation on Wednesday, September 10, 2008.
This is still speculation because the hurricane is still far out in the gulf. However, the company plans to team up with city planners and execute the evacuation if the hurricane stays in its current track toward the far west Houston/far east Corpus Christi areas. |

Evacuation is not mandatory. If you live in 1 of 3 evacuations zones it is however highly suggested. Evaluate your location on a flood map for your area, that should be able to tell you how you might fair if your area floods. Worse comes to worse you'll have to spend a couple of hundred and buy a generator. Living in Houston owning a generator should be mandatory. Just be prepared for the worst, so your not caught off guard and under supplied!

The city has a website showing all of the evacuation zones.
http://www.houstontx.gov/oem/evac.html
But don't forget that even though you may not be required to evacuate, you must still be prepared because we could loose power for a while if it is bad. |

To tell you the truth, the staff of meteorologists I work with say it's highly unlikely that any hurricane will hit close to Houston for the remainder of this year's hurricane season. They predict Ike heading towards Florida. |
