Is Las Vegas safe? 10 points for the best advise. Thank you?

My friend and I am going to Las Vegas for the first time. I am sure there will be time when we will do our own things.

Can I walk around alone on the strip in Las Vegas? Can I hang around by myself in my hotel/casino at night? Can I take pictures inside the casinoes? Can I ask someone to help me take a picture? lol :)

I'm sure you have heard many stories about Las Vegas. When you come to Las Vegas, stay on the main part of the strip between Mandalay Bay and Wynn if you are walking. If you have transportation, you should be fine going just about anywhere. Be cautious going between Sahara and the downtown area. Once you get downtown, stay on Fremont street. All basic safety and common sense should be used! Know whats going on around you, keep your personal belonging close and so on. If you plan on going to clubs while you are here, do not drive yourself unless you do not plan on drinking. If you and your friend are going to drink take a cab there and back to your hotel! ( it costs less than an accident or even your lives ) As far as pictures, you can take pictures in the hotel, just not in the gaming areas. If I were you I would ask one of the hotel employees to take a picture for you, that way you know your camera is safe and they are not drunk or going to do something stupid. While you are there use common sense. Have fun, Las Vegas is a great place to visit and has alot to offer. But remember it is a large city and has its downfalls as most large cities do. Enjoy your trip and hope to see you again!!

I am a single female living in Vegas. Do not venture too far off the strip late at night by yourself. Do not drink to much when your out. Watch your purse. Especially when you are on the street. Inside hotels your probably safer then at a police department. VEGAS security does not play. People robbing, or doing anything fishy are dealt with quickly. SO yeah on the strip your safe, and even some off strip locals are cool. But, off strip there are not very well monitored crack heads, they will just rob you though. Good luck, hey if you win a Million dollars when your here don't forget me!! p.s. I mean look-we got O.J. when California failed.

As with any city that attracts a lot of tourists, Las Vegas has it's share of crime. But out of the 4-5 times I've been there, I have never seen anything that would make me believe it's generally an unsafe place to be. What you probably have to worry about most is pick pockets. If you mainly stick to the strip and the big casinos, you shouldn't really have anything to worry about.

As for asking people to take pictures, I would say use the same judgment you would anywhere else. You have to remember that the vast majority of people who go to Vegas are regular people like you who are just looking to have a good time.

yes, you can definitely walk around alone on the strip.. it's safe.. a lot of people do that.. better yet take the monorail to get around the strip cause walking can get very tiring!

you can take pics inside the casinoes and you can ask someone to take your pic.. my husband and i asked some people to take our pics.. you just have to choose very carefully who you ask..

for more info on what to do in las vegas, you can check out

enjoy! :)

It's as safe as you make it. I've gone there alone three or four times. If you're careless, you'll be a easy target. You can hang around the hotel/casino at night, most people won't bother you. I don't advise sitting by yourself at the bar. Many "working girls" frequent the hotel bars, and if you're female, it might be assumed you're working, if you're male, you might be solicted. I also caution against drinking too much when you're alone - it makes you an easier target for crime. (with pickpockets being the least of the issue.) Keep an eye on your stuff at all times. You can walk the Strip alone because technically, you won't be alone - as long as you don't go onto the side streets. There's as many people on the street at 3am as there is at 3pm.

You can take photos in the casinos of the attractions, but you're not allowed to photograph or videotape in the gaming areas, and definitely not allowed to take a photo of anyone gambling.

You can walk freely and safely on the strip during night and day. Just keep in mind to keep your hand bags and belongings close to you.
Same goes for Casino.
Other than that you should be fine.
When asking for a picture, make sure you pick someone who doesn't look intoxicated, a criminal...
Pick someone who looks like their on vacation too.

Good Luck and Have fun!

don't walk around on the strip at night by yourself. during the day time in the area close to your hotel depending on where you are staying it might not be to bad. or even in your hotel it isn't too bad. But at night time there is safety in numbers no matter where you are, and a city that is that concentrated is not where you want to be by yourself, too many people and too much can happen especially if you are seen wandering by yourself.(not because it isn't safe, just because it is pretty boring by yourself). I went to vegas on new years and had a blast, but it isn't really the wander around by yourself kinda place. In the casinos while you are playing games in things like that you and your friend don't have to be attached but at least know where each other went while you are within your hotel. Many of the vegas hotels are huge, way to vast to actually go looking for people, there are often entire malls within hotels. On the flipside people are pretty friendly and it isn't hard to find someone to take a picture for you, or help you with directions and things like that since everyone is pretty much there for the same reason. If you are going from point a to point b by yourself that is different just stay aware of your surroundings... but if you look lost and people will notice. If you look alone and wandering people will notice. And while i have never had a problem in vegas, why take that chance.

Like a number of us have said stay close to the crowds. At all times, keep a close eye on your money. It's probably not a good idea to wander off of the strip. There's a lot of regular people in Vegas. But like any where else there are those that you need to be weary of. Good luck and I hope that you both have a lot of fun!

Greetings! The best advice I can give you is to always be aware of your surroundings and use good common sense when out alone. During the day there are thousands of people on the strip, so it isn't as big a risk if you go somewhere on your own. Just stay in the public eye--don't take alley short cuts, etc... Always look like you know where you're going even when you don't. The monorail is a great way to get around, as is the strip public transit system. If you're staying at a name casino, you should be safe indoors at night. Just make sure your have your cash, ID and keys close to you and easily accessible. You'll need 2 forms of ID when you win that huge jackpot ~smile~ Memorize your room number--never keep it on your person. No photo taking is permitted in the casino--except the one they'll take when you hit that jackpot... There are plenty of outdoor photo opportunities. You'll have a wonderful time. We're going in March & I can't wait. The first time I went, I was awestruck. You will be too...

siriusdoggy
It's safe as long as you are in the crowds which are impossible to avoid around the strip.
As for taking photos - the casinos do not allow photography in the gaming areas. Anywhere you see machines. The occasional snapshot may slide by but if you start posing and asking people to take your photo then you are sure to draw attention from security.
It's mainly an issue of other people's privacy. Some people may not want to be photographed gambling.

You can feel safe as long as you stay on the strip .. The casinos are very safe .. security is very tight inside. I have never had a problem taking photos in a casino ... I even asked cocktail waitresses to pose for me with no problem. If I want my photo taken by a stranger I usually look for someone who just took a photo with their own camera. Usually means they know how to work a camera and won't run off with it.

Like all tourists towns .. the pick pockets will be around but the police have been very good at removing them. If at any time you feel unsafe just speak up loudly. The crowd will take care of it. Inside a casino .. security will quickly be there.

Best thing if you are alone ... don't look like you are alone. Look around as if you are looking for someone that was with you.

It is not safe off the strip and it is not safe sometimes on the strip either.

Your O.C. Paisano
Las Vegas is relatively safe and with the tax revenue has a thorough police force. Stay on the strip. Keep your money well hidden and secure e.g.small pocketbook Don't wander away from downtown by the cheaper motels. Uptown stay on the boulevard as there are strip clubs and drinking places south of L.V. Blvd.
Hot Chick above is going to end up in Hot Water...No pics in the casino, Hope. Dress up as your usual beautiful Asian self, and you'll be surrounded by winks.
