Your best bet would be to move outside of the city! LA is no joke, it is no longer the number 1 crime city, but its still ranked up there. I live about 60 miles away from LA, all I notice is the air, the people, and the buildings get crappier and crappier the further you get into LA. |

If you make at least 100,000 dollars a year and you don't mind spending a good part of your day on the freeway, its not bad. |

Well if you want to live in the city of LA, it is very expensive. If you are just talking about orange county, then there are many different neighborhoods: Expensive ones, family oriented ones, poor ones. |

Turn on CNN right now. LA just had an earthquake, which is not too unusual for them. Good luck. |

I live in Los Angeles. I moved here when I graduted from college 5 years ago. Los Angeles is very upmarket, and very glamorous, but it is VERY expensive, and the people are very artificial (I'm a native New Yorker, he he). Above all, it has its benefits... We have great weather here, and everything you want/need is readily available to you. The crime rate in Beverly Hills where I live is not all that bad, but in Long Beach, it is really rife.
I hope this info helped you...
**Edit**
OH YES! You guys reminded me... Yip, traffic is really bad most days... |

Crime?? Earthquakes?? That's a bunch of nonsense. First, you might feel a moderate earthquake once every several years. Second, the crime here is relatively low. L.A. always falls somewhere in the middle in those surveys that come out each year listing the nation's safest and most dangerous cities. So the crime is average, and according to reports, the City is safer now than it was at any point since around 1970. Sheesh..rumors!
The only thing you should be concerned about is cost. L.A. is the 2nd most expensive city in the U.S., after New York. |

It depends on where in LA. It's a big place. I lived there for 10 yrs in different areas including Hollywood, West LA, Burbank, Westwood.
My favorite apartment was just off of Melrose. It's considered the Beverly/Fairfax district. You should look into that. The duplexes are really cute.
I hated living in Hollywood. My car was broken into & so was my apartment plus my neighbors were all drug addicts. It's a cool place to go out at night but I wouldn't live there again.
West Hollywood is like the gay center of the universe but it's SO much fun. Very eclectic.
Westwood is very college like so I don't prefer that.
The Valley (Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena) is extremely boring.
Some areas of West LA are okay & some aren't. Century City is nice but expensive.
If you can afford it you should live in Pacific Palisades (really quaint beach town) or Malibu. |

If you like to be struk by earthquaks then you better batten down the hatches and be prepared for an earthquake. But if you do not like earthquakes then i would segjest you better get out of the state of Califoria. |

Yeah I used to live there and it was great. Los Angeles is the best place to live in. It has the perfect weather and everything you need is there. It has the best beaches and amusement parks. It's a lifestyle...The only bad thing there are the earthquakes but usually you won't even feel those. Unless it's like the Northridge Quake..that was bad. |

no there's too much crime. |

Yeah why wouldn't it be? Great weather, a beach, hollywood. What more can a person want. Well Los Angeles itself is dangerous especially the east part. But i would suggest you going to orange county only 15 miles from los angeles. I live in OC. Actors and athletes live in Los Angeles. |

it has its good and bad. not only is it expensive, its also crowded, and yes lots of crime/gang, lots and lots of TRAFFIC, you basically have to drive everywhere to get somewhere and there are alot of areas in LA that are quite DIRTY.
its good because its very culturally diverse, lots of things to do, places to see (nightclubs, sightseeings places) and many jobs available.
my opinion..go somewhere else.,like Orange County. |

Los Angeles doesn't have the highest crime rate in the nation, it isn't even in the top 10. St. Louis, Memphis, Little Rock and Detroit go back and forth on which city is worst.
The earthquake was a moderate 5.4. It was my first and it didn't freak me out. There was no horrible damage except for stuff falling off of shelves. Strict building codes and retro-fitting older buildings has helped make it more likely you will survive an earthquake.
Sure, move out here. The cost of living is very high unless you are coming from NYC, than it will be cheaper. You will need a car. |

with the news of the earthquake today it's not the first place that would spring to my mind to go and live |

way to much crime!! |

No, it doesn't have the highest crime rate. It looks bad in the movies ...but those are movies. I believe either Detroit or Baltimore are the current #1 in crime.
If LA is so horrible why are more people moving there every year? LA is a great vibrant city with many good points. It is a very safe city.
(By the way London and France are not crime free either) |

Go to San Diego instead. It's cleaner, safer, and there is more to do besides drink in bars. |

RAIL

It's not any worse than any other big city, try living in one of the suburbs like nearby Orange County or near the beach, but for god's sake don't move to Compton or East L.A. |
