LA is NOT HOT all the time!!! People think it is like Florida or NY in the summer. It is not. In most areas of LA, it is hardly ever less than 60 and rarely more than 80. It cools down at night and you almost always need at least a light sweatshirt - even in the summer.
The more inland you are the warmer it is. And the Valley is much hotter.
Sept is the hottest month of the year. June is the gloomest. If it's going to rain, it is usually Jan or Feb. |

Los Angeles is arid! I mean, compared to Africa it may be humid, but it's definitely dry. In San Diego, I get so much stickier and my hair frizzes up. But not in LA. That's a horrible way to measure humidity, but dammit, people who say it's humid in LA obviously have never been to Florida. |

LA is indeed arid. But it is not hot all year round. One morning in February my car thermometer said 28F at 8 AM in Costa Mesa, in the OC near the ocean. Through the winter low temperatures in the high 30s are common with highs sometimes no more than the low 50s at times. Hot weather occurs all through the year but there are times that the temperature could be described as "cool". |

It's dry! I know this only because my hair frizzes and curls when it's humid! If you are at the beach or coastal cities it is humid OR if it's rainy. That's it! I've lived here my whole life. |

ive lived in LA all my life.. i go to nyc every summer.. i dont know how it compares to upstate but its umbelivably humid in ny compared to LA.. parts of LA county are desert.. its hot and arid.. and when i go to places like ny,flordia, louisiana, east coast heat is soo different then west coast.. i cant handle the humidity.. cuz when its hot i was never raised to deal with humidity.. its a horrible extra factor. |

LA is arid. NY is humid. but dont think for one second that it is still comfortable in the summers. It may be 90% humidity and 85 degrees in NY, but in LA it will be 95 and dry heat, with the sun beaming down on u. |

Huh? You people smokin somthing?
Compared to upstate NY, LA is like the Gobi Desert. LA only gets a few inces of rain per year, and pretty mild. In general, LA is arid. It is more humid closer to the coast, but it's generally arid. Look at what grows (or doesn't grow) here and in NY. NY has lots of natural lakes, we got zilch. |

Surprisingly statistics from both NOAA , and Cityrating.com show that Los Angeles has, on average, a slightly higher relative humidity than, say, Albany, New York. It is hard to believe because the air in L.A. does not have that hot, sticky feeling that air in east coast cities has. Perhaps this phenomenon is because the air in Los Angeles usually comes off the ocean and is cool compared to air over land masses where the sun has had time to warm it. Until I researched the statistics I too would have said that L.A. was more arid.
Also, it is a common misconception that Los Angeles is warm all year long. Actually L.A. does have a very noticeable Winter season where overnight low temperatures can get into the low 40's, and day time highs in the low to mid 50's. This misconception probably is caused because, although it can get "cold", it is usually sunny, and because of the low altitude it doesn't snow in Los Angeles. |
