Absolutely bring your daughter; she will always remember this trip. There is so much to do with children - does she like dolls? Take her to American Girl Place - girls LOVE it! There are shows, lunches, teas, and the girls bring their dolls - special little chairs for them. They not only sell dolls here, but they sell little doll outfits; there are doll beauticians who wash, set and comb the doll's hair. This is THE place for a birthday party. It can run into a lot of money, but she'll never forget this place - maybe grandma can.....

There is a magazine called TimeOut New York for Kids - if you can get it where you live, pick up a copy (or read it at the library or Barnes & Noble) - this is a magazine full of what to do in New York with kids.
If you don't want to spend a fortune on a Broadway show, take your daughter to the New Victory Theatre on 42nd Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenue - their shows are for children - they give you a special booster seat so your little one can see everything - I love their shows.
Take her for a ride on the Staten Island Ferry - take pictures of her with the Statue of Liberty in the background - she will probably appreciate that when she's a little older. The ferry's fun and it's free.
The Children's Museum on the Upper West Side - and there are some interesting restaurants nearby. Alice's Teacup is fun

The real (original) Winnie the Pooh is on exhibit at the Donnell Branch of the Library (the library has an excellent music collection while you're there)
Have a great time! |

NYC is much cleaner and safer than it was 15 or 20 years ago. There are some well-known bad neighbourhoods: stay out of those, and you're fine. |

It all depends on where you are taking your 7 year old.. all ny isnt bad- but there are some bad places. |

If the 7 year old is being accompanied with adult she should be fine. There are a lot of sights and fun things for a 7 year old to see. If she can skate, she can go ice skating in Rockefeller Center, she can also have her picture taken in from of the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. She can enjoy some of the cuisine maybe that she's never tasted before. There are a lot of fun thing in New York to do for adults and children. |

It is a wonderful experience for any age child. There are certain places in town to stay away from but there are just as many places that you need to go. Times square is a great experience for all ages so you should definitlely go there. Your daughter will love it. You should take her. |

She'll have fun but she's too young too appreciate the busyness and attractions. It's better for older kids. Saying "it's no place for a 7 y/o" would be wrong. It's not like she's gonna get lost or she'll be in danger. Take her to 42nd she'll love the lights and shops. There's a huge Toys R' Us in Time's Square and Hershey store. |

Yes, it's great for kids but I'm not sure how easy it will be for the adults. Dinners, Broadway, shopping and all the other fun adult activities may be rough on a kid, especially if you're doing a lot of walking. Some of the sightseeing may get a little boring when you're 7. I was 8 the first time I came here and my grandparents and mom took me. We did mostly kid stuff like the Bronx Zoo, Museum of Natural History and FAO Schwartz. The trip was more for me than anyone else so we had a good time.
There's no need to be overly worried about safety issues, especially since there will be 4 adults watching one child! |

Why? are there no 7 year olds in New York??
Maybe many parts are not for children ( due to crime etc) but there are many places worth while like the Statue of Liberty. Also there are many areas outside the city like the place I grew up that had nothing to do with what you see on tv.
It would be a great experience wherever you take her. |

Yes, definitely! I am the mom of two, who have both been there before age 10. There are so many neat things to see in NYC. Also, you can throw in the history to please everyone (Statue of Liberty, WTC site...). This time of year is also neat for kids. You can take them ice skating, and the to that tiny little toy store (FAO Schwartz). I say go for it!
Also what is the plan for leaving her behind? Will your wife really have a wonderful time if she is having to wonder what your daughter is doing and how she is faring. |

You know your kid best, but I have taken seven year olds to the following:
F.A.O. Schwartz toy store, one of the biggest and best.
Statue of Liberty.
Central Park Zoo--has nice petting zoo.
Bronx Zoo--enormous, will fill the kid's day if they can tolerate it.
Rose Center for Space--this includes the Hayden Planetarium, and is part of the American Museum of Natural History, which has Dinosaurs and American Indian stuff--what 7 year old won't be delighted?
Broadway Theater--Mary Poppins is a big hit right now. Let the entire family wonder how Bert walks on the ceiling.
Staten Island ferry--see the harbor, and then take a bus to RichmondTown, a recreation of colonial Staten Island.
Coney Island Aquarium.
NY Fire Museum; NYC Children's Museum
Hall of Science in Flushing Meadow Park (includes a small planetarium), with the aviary nearby where you walk at tree top level among the birds. |

Absolutely! There are a great many activities for children in New York. The Museum of Natural History, The Children's Museum on the upper West Side. Lots of theatre companies, parks and don't forget FAO Schwartz! New York is a surprisingly kid-friendly town. |

Hell yes. I was once a 7 year old kid growing up in Queens and I thought NYC was great - still do
NYC can be a bit over stimulating for a kid but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
The suggestion of the Museum of Natural History was a good one. Kids love dinosaurs.
Beyond all the cool destinations that you can take your daughter to ,the actual act of getting there can be a lot of fun for a kid - i.e walking or subways
While I don't encourage fighting with your spouse, NYC is a great amazing place that should be seen and experienced and thoroughly enjoyed. and as such is worth holding your ground for.
btw where are you guys coming from ? |

Yes, it is a very good experience. I'm from Minnesota and I had the opportunity to bring my children and they never forgot it. I was alone with my children and I felt perfectly safe. And we had a blast seeing all the places that have been on different movies. going to Time Square and seeing the street vender's, Central park, ... its like a whole different world over there. Take him, he will never forget it. |

I think this is a great city for kids!
There are plenty of things to do to keep busy - most of which can be used as a learning experience as well!
Museum of Natural History & Planetarium
Children's Museum
Broadway Shows - Beauty & the Beast, Lion King, Mary Poppins, the Grinch & Tarzan
Plus there are a multitude of events for kids - check out Time Out New York's kids issue for listings.
As long as you are not sending her out on the subway in the middle of the night by herself...I think your daughter will be just fine.
Probably the only reason not to bring her would be if you wanted to do a lot of "adult" things and didn't want to take her along. |

I think it's a wonderful place for people of all ages. I'm taking my 4 year old to NYC for a winter vacation. I have bought several children's books teaching him about New York and different attractions there. He is excited every time he sees something about New York on tv or in a magazine. You just need to do alot of research to find age appropriate things. It would be a wonderful experience for her! I have listed below activites that are perfect for children:
Statue of Liberty
Empire State Building
NY Fire Museum
NY Children's Museum
Central Park
Brooklyn Bridge
Times Square (ToysRUs, Hershey's store, etc..)
FAO Swartz
Met
And this is just a few! Good Luck and Have fun! |

I think NY would be a great place to take your daughter, but maybe wait until she gets a little older. Their isn't a lot of things for her to do. |

Not since they ran the strip joints out of time square.

It's not safe there so you won't have much fun, because you will be constantly looking after her and there isn't much for a 7 year old to do there. |
