Whats with all the dumb questions today?
Of course it is!
If you don't like the density of skyscrapers in Manhattan go across the river to Jersey City or Downtown Brooklyn, Newark, Paterson, White Plains, New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, Long Island City, Stamford, Trenton, Bridgeport, New Haven or any other city in the Metro area. It's not far from Montreal, Toronto, Philadelphia, Atlantic City.
Don't worry about traffic, the subway system will get you anywhere within an 80 mile radius of the city. The traffic is not really bad. Shopping is definately the best. NYC is the safest big city in america with a population of 1 mil+.
New York has all 4 seasons, hot summers, cold winters and warm Fall and spring. |

There are many cities which can be considered the best in many view, but the reaosn New York is the best is because it brings all the cultures, tastes, senses and people of these other great cities together in one place.
It is a place of opportunity where you either make it or it breaks you.
It's legendary and historical, tragic (911) and prosperous (740 Park and Trump Towers). It's where people come to make their dreams a reality (Madonna) and come to after their dreams have been fulfilled.
It is a place of power (Wall Street) and peace (Central Park).
Songs have been sung about, people complain about and yet still, many want to go there, see the skycrapers and breathe the air.
New York is not only the best city because of this; but because of the people that make it New York. |

Well yes and no. I loved New York and thought it was insanely cool, but personally I think the best city in the world is whichever city you live in or were born in. For me, that's Sydney. Sydney has a spectacular harbour, great Opera House and Bridge, fantastic beaches, cool cafes and restaurants and on the whole is a great city.
New York is gigantic and fast-paced and buzzy and fun, but I'm sure someone from Paris would think their city was the greatest, just as someone from Hong Kong or London or San Francisco or Melbourne or wherever would think their city is the best.
Patriotism plays a huge part in your perception of places. |

Most people believe that where they live is the best place in the world. I happen to like L.A., where I live. Last night we had a BBQ on the beach, and this morning, I took a walk up the hill near my house, where I had a beautiful view all across the city.
I have never had to shovel snow. In the winter, if I want to ski, I drive 90 min. to the slopes, which are in L.A. county. In the spring, I can drive out to the desert to see the wildflowers bloom -mile after mile of beautiful flowers. I am a fairly poor student, but I live in a building with a nice pool and patio where I can lay out in the sun approximately 300 days a year.
Within just a few miles of my house are art museums, many theaters -both live theater and movies. I am just up the street from the fabulous Sunset Strip which has every bit as much excitement as Times Square or Piccadilly Circus. Just on the other side of the hill I walked up this morning is Universal City Studios. All of the TV stations and Film studios are within 10 miles of here. Many of the TV shows which are supposed to take place in New York are filmed here. I run into actors in the grocery store. Everyone has things that they like about their home town. Enjoy what you've got! |

I must say that New York City is the best in the world. The city never closes. Where else can you get something to eat at 3AM in the morning? This is the city that never sleeps! |

I've never been there but I really want to go there, but I think there are many good cities in the world, you should check out LA downtown district when you come back to the states |

NYC is very cool and crazy, but I'm not sure whether I really want to live there. I recently went to the states and visited a few places. NYC used to be on my places-to-go-before-i-die list but my most favourite city during the trip turned out to be Chicago! :-)
Home: it's the place where you spend your money without calculating and converting it in your head to other currency rates.
Fave place when travelling: it's that place that makes you feel relaxed, happy and never want to leave. |

To the Americans the world stops at New York and nothing is better. Dont get taken in by the hype the yanks dish out for example if a team wins at baseball they are the world champions despite it not being played anywhere else apart from japan. If you are objective about it the worlds greatest city has to have a great history, great architecture both ancient and modern and tourist attractions that are recognised around the world. New York ticks some of the boxes but not as many as London , Paris , Rome or Athens. After all it is hardley 200 years old and most of the buildings were put up in the last 80 years. If the world had to have a capital city i think maybe London would edge it over Paris but american money would rig the vote in favour of New York |

No way not the greatest. You have to check out San Diego and Boston to really get a good broad view. LA is not as good as the big apple though. I dont think. |
