Is North America a waste of time ?

I just got back to the UK from a 4 months of touring all around North America & quite frankly, i'm glad to get home. My local fish and chip shop coupled with my local inn offered more culture, conversation, irony and wit in 5 minutes than USA could in months. They are a nation of shamed people that have no shame but are a shame.

This waste of time saved your sorry behind in WW II. Remember that when you think of our lack of culture and wit.

and we wonder why us Brits get a bad name......I agree that this idiot is allowed to have an opinion but lets stop feeding his immature brain by fuelling his childlike comments. My opinion for what its worth is that having spent many wonderful times in the US in several states I feel you guys have so much diversity to offer and as far as culture is concerned who could ask for more. One thing that puzzled me though is if this person was having such a miserable time, why on earth did he/she stay for 4 months.......hmmmmm !

been to US many times and only ever met one person who was rude, if you had problems it was probably because you are the main problem and a d*ckhead.

pity you came home, try North Korea next time

why should we be shamed? yeah, we have mc donalds (oh god, i hate that company) but now every other country does too, there must be a demand for american products other places. (ok, not EVERY country, but you get the idea) I meet people all of the time who are witty and cultured, from all around the country. one of my best friends has been all around the world, in addition to living in france. i would say that's cultured. we have tons of different cultures living here, the country is different from state to state, the landscape, the climate, the midset of the people. i've met some pretty rude people in the uk, and didnt see much culture myself, so really, i think it can be said about any place. (and are canada and mexico included?)

interesting opinion. Can't say that I agree. Maybe you didn't feel comfrotable enough to truely enjoy all the wonderful things we have here. You will always have a soft spot for your home country, and if you're acting close minded like you seem to be you will never enjoy the world.

You obviously didn't get to the right parts, or you didn't go with the right attitude.

I spent four years studying in Philadelphia, PA and while I was very happy to come back to the UK I don't regret the time I spent in the USA for a minute - it was a fantastic experience and I met lots of wonderful people. Of course, like every other country, the USA, Canada and Mexico have their fair share of dull, boring or downright offensive people, but you get those kind of people in every single part of the world.

I'm sorry you found it so disappointing but you should never look back on any travel experience and consider it a waste of time. Even if it wasn't what you expected it should still expand your horizons and help you develop as a person by gaining new experiences.

It's a shame you're so shamefully xenophobic. I've been to London twice on business and the conversation is blithely identical to a NY Bar, I hate the president/prime ministers becuase he's a twit, did you catcht he Baseball/football game. I'd like to know what fish and chips shop you go to where all the Caimbridge Schollars hang out at because there's just nothing your culture presents that makes you any different from us.. It's a shame that you seem to think there needs to be.

Four months is an awful long time to be somewhere you don't like,I'd have got the next plane home, Americia has everything a tourist needs, beaches, mountains, cities, deserts, canyons.........I agree that it wont appeal to everyone, I've visited 33 states and it's like never let me down as a holiday destination.

if that's you opinion OK,i do not judge any one

Yes, for small, closed minds, it sure is!

Take a pass. We won't miss you!

(Supercilious jerk!)

Stay home.

Sorry that you had a bad experience, but don't judge everyone in North America based on what you saw. You didn't specify where exactly you visited and what you did. If you spent your whole time in bars or in the gheto areas, then I can understand your feelings. There are plenty of places here full of culture and conversation. You just have to seek them out.

Oh wow I can't believe one of them trotted out the old rubbish about "saving our butts in WW2".... (yawn)

Seriously, there ARE many educated and cultured Americans. We shouldn't generalise like this. They are all terrified of their bosses though. Absolutely physically terrified.

Please don't upset our best allies like this. There are plenty of decent Americans.

?
If you ate at McDonalds, drank beer at Fridays and never got off the Interstate highway and only saw the news on telly then you only got the homogenized version of North America. Sorry about your disappointment. Maybe you'll like France better - pick a Mosque.

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder! There is no perfect country! These places have different beauty given by GOD!

Are referring to Canada, The United States, or Mexico? To label an entire continent a waste of time is somewhat narrow minded don't you think? Then you vent your spleen on your country's closest ally. You are not required by any means to like us but please keep your snotty, superior British attitude to yourself. Maybe it's just sour grapes cause we kicked the living s*** out of you not once but twice to wit the revolutionary war and the war of 1812!

PICKLE
Reading the frankly rude and uneducated answers you have received here..... yes, you seem to be correct in your view of the yanks.
Dont you Americans know the best way to deal with insults is to stay cool and give a clever, thoughtful answer????????

Stay in Blighty.... better conversation, education and culture.

Best of British to you all!
