Everyone else is wrong. It is neither an island or a state. It is a peninsula jutting out from the upper left side of pangea's bottom right coast.

Hawaii is an island (the largest one) in a chain of islands known as the hawaiian islands, formerly the sandwich islands. The group of islands, also collectively joined the united states back in 1959.

hawaii is not a peninsula at all, but part of the islands do contain them. That is an three-sided part of the land like florida or cape cod that have water on the three sides.

There is also the island of Hawaii--- referred to as the Big Island (because--- of course--- it is the biggest island in the chain)

Hawaii is our 50th state, and is made up of Islands. The island of Hawaii, or the big Island, Maui, being 2nd in size, then Oahu, Then Kauai. Of course there are the smaller islands like Lanai, and Molokai. Remember, a peninsula, is attached to the land, but reaches out into the ocean, and an island is fully surrounded, by ocean...............

The big island is also known as the island of Hawaii, it has 2 active volcanos, and 2 "cities"on it (Hilo and Kona), I think there is also an observatory, coffee plantations, an airport.
Their is also the state which consists of a group of islands....

Hawaii is a group of Islands. However, Honolulu, the state capital, is located on the island Oahu. The surrounding islands around Oahu make up the state of Hawaii.
