Is it better to visit the Empire State Building during the day or during the night?

I would like to visit the top of the rock and the empire state building, one during the day and one during the night. Which one has the best views for each time? Thanks!

go when the sun is about to set... the red/orangish hue... awesome pictures... there isnt really a timer on how long you can stay up there... so u get both day view and night view...

go at night when its lit up if you want romantic. Go during the day if you want to actually c the view of the rest of the city, not just the skyline.

allenhossin94
daytime i guess so u can see everything
but nightime is good too because you can see all the pretty lights and stuff. also, you don't see the sun blazing in your eyes

so my answer is nightime. you can see all the big buildings and you can look at all the macy's lights

Save your night visit for the ESB b/c Central park is more difficult to observe from there. @ night you won't be able to see much in the park anyways. Top of the Rock has better view of CP. Wait times to get to obs deck comparable for both @ either time.

I visited during the day. It was really clear that day so I could see far into the distance.

Empire State is best for night view. Too much breeze at times. Try using the audio services, if you haven't visited much in NY.

Views. I would say daytime. That's when I visited it 3 weeks ago.

Oh, gosh, I'd have to say visit the Empire State Building during the day because there's so many far away sites you can see, but I've only been there during the day. The lights are probably beautiful at night. Flip a coin . . . Have a wonderful time.

If it is halfway clear and not too muggy out, then definitely during the day. I would say, yes during the day. Do the top of the rock at night. The whole plaza below is really alive at night.
In fact if you don't do the Empire State Building during the day and the Top of the Rock at night, I will leave work and personally kick your buttocks. And that's all I have to say about that.

At night you get a much better view of the skyline unless you want to see historic New York and see all the sites then the day is better because you can point out different places

hippoterry2005
Empire State as soon as they open (9:30 I think) to avoid a long wait. Also pre-book on line.
