Yes, it's definitely cheaper...but be prepared for the humidity and extreme heat (and this year, there's a Major Drought going on throughout the entire state). Also be prepared to always be asked the question "Is it just like Mayberry?" anytime you go out of the state and tell someone you're from North Carolina.
But if you really want to live cheap, cross the border into South Carolina. Everything down there costs less and they don't have such stupid money-making schemes the way NC does. |

As a Realtor, I can point you to many past clients from Chicago that have been amazed by the lower cost of living here. We're in the Charlotte/Lake Norman area, Lake Norman is one of the more expensive locations in NC and it still is comparatively cheaper than most northern big cities. Feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to help you out. |

Are u serious? Chicago is a big city. Yes, its expensive and more than North Carolina. Supply vs. Demand. Why ask that here? Find property values, rent costs, wage difference....
Either way the Average IQ in the Midway will get a boost. |

Oh god yes. Chicago is a ridiculously expensive city to live in.
I've lived here my whole life, but I also visit my grandfather in North Carolina. I'm constantly amazed at how much cheaper everything is there.
I'm not sure on the cost of houses there, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were cheaper. Usually in any highly populated urban area you're going to pay more.
I would check out city data sites to compare rates between the two. Heres one I found:

Good luck : ) |

It most likely is...Chicago isn't one of the most expensive cities in the country, and there are definitely ways to save money here, but generally speaking country vs. urban, urban usually wins the priciness battle, so enjoy the lower prices! |

It all depends on location, location, location. Looking at middle class suburbs, I'd say it's about the same. Taxes may be lower in NC. |

That depends entirely on your personal needs and lifestyle.
There are rich an poor people in both places, and many who just make ends meet. |

very much so. Charlotte has a decent metro atmosphere and will be a bit more pricy than the rest of the state but will be much more reasonable than the windy. |

Some places, yes, it is. Some places, not so much. You will find the area from New Bern down to Myrtle Beach, SC very expensive, indeed. The Outer Banks are obscenely expensive; housing at Nags Head starts around $600,000 and exceeds 1.3million. I once looked at 3 unimproved sand lots (beachfront, however) for 998,000. Get back inland away from the coast, and the prices are more moderate. |

Let's first clear up your English Grammar. The prepositon you should be using is "than" not "then". Start your sentence with a capital letter. When you want help, at least have the dignity to write at the level of English Grammar and Composition equivalent to the fourth grade.
North Carolina's cost of living is less than Chicago according to cost of living data. |
