Is it depressing to live in Arizona?

I don't mean that in a rude way, but I may have to move out to Mesa or Tucson Arizona to go to school. I was looking at pictures and at first it looked really cool ya know with the rock mountains and everything. But then I started looking at houses to buy or rent, and it seemed like 80% were those double wide trailers, with all stone outside the house, no grass, everything looks dead.

I was really looking forward to this but after looking at the pictures of the house it kind of reminded me of some depressing movie about a trailer park or something. I know I have to see it for myself, and I'm going to in March, but I was just wondering what other people think... maybe it was just bad pictures??

You know, I have spent 5 years living in Arizona and at first, I will admit that it was a bit of culture shock in that I was used to green grass, rolling hills, farms etc and to go there I was now among sand, rocks, cactus etc.

I actually have come to love Arizona more than my original green home though. The people are nicer, the weather is great all year ( I love hot weather) and the job opportunities are greater. All in all, I think if you give Arizona a shot, you will like it, there are a lot of differences but they are good ones. It has a lot to offer and a charm all of its own. Nothing like living in the wild west!

As for the homes, there are a lot of areas that are good and bad. Mesa is not one of the better ones, I suggest if you are going to go to school there, you might want to live in Tempe or South Scottsdale. Mesa has some high crime, and the quality of housing varies block to block. Tempe is a college town and safe, they are geared up for more entertainment and there is affordable apts. It will look more like anytown USA to you. South Scottsdale is also fairly affordable and MUCH safer than Mesa. Stay where there are student populations and you will have a much better experience in Az.

Absolutely not! The one thing that would be depressing is NOT living in Arizona.

Life is what you make it anywhere.. I have lived in Arizona for seven yrs now. I don't like the summers but I didnt like the summers back east either. Unless it is under 80 I think it is too hot so that doesn't leave many places for me. Arizona is beautiful. I have a great job and wonderful friends. Will I be here forever, that is not a question I can answer but it definitely was a great place as a stepping stone. The only reason I would leave at this moment is to follow my heart to the man I love.

Well I've been here 41 years, lots of nightclubs and concerts. Plus we got alot of sports outlets now. I'd compare Phoenix, Mesa , tuscon to say Las Vegas away fromn the stip. Most homes from 80's on are frame and stucco, Lots of not too bad desert type landscape just because it takes alot of water to keep your lawn alive. But I do have a lawn and so do many people. It's just real damn hot and the crime, tempers, and alchohol abuse has been going up, up, up. Good job outlook, and lots of people making big $ out here.

Myself
OMG i used to live there and i SOOOO wish i could go back...you will LOVE it i promise. Its nice I used to live in Mesa and the people are really polite. It is hot there, but that just makes you love the rain even more...and if you look around i'm sure you can find a nice place we lived in a Condo on Guatlupe Dr. i probably spelled that wrong but just look around.

Good luck

Not in Scottsdale, AZ, where all of Arizona's rich people live!!

well, being a lifelong resident of the east coast, i found it kind of depressing to live out here. but that's only because of homesickness :)

Arizona is beautiful...the desert landscapes are out of this world. The mountains are amazing. It definitely doesn't look dead here. And at least in Tucson, there are lots of beautiful houses. Try looking in Oro Valley. It's true that there isn't much grass, but i've seen some very creative yards that are probably nicer than a grass lawn.

Try it out. If you absolutely hate it, I'm sure you'll find a way to leave (I have). But most people love it.

you just ran into bad pictures go out there and determine if you like it

Brandon
I was born in Arizona and lived there for 3 years before moving. I'm not sure what to tell you, because I don't remember anything. But my mom, dad and older sister said that they enjoyed it.

you are kidding right? I think you saw some bad pictures. I've lived in AZ most of my life (about 24 years). It's beautiful out here. Plus the sun makes it not depressing!

There is so much more to the Phoenix area than double wide trailers and rock mountains. Actually there are way more nice houses here than stupid trailers. There are plenty of yards around with lush green grass not to mention parks and probably one of the most plentify selection of golf courses. We've got everything that the rest of the country has, except snow. If you want snow it's only a hour drive away up in the mountains.

Natalie Michelle
No!!!I live in Tempe, a suburb of phoenix and it's not depressing at all! We have lots of trees, really green grass right now, and we're growing tomatoes. PLus most houses I've looked at our really nice houses you'd find anywhere else. Indeed, it was bad pictures. There are trailer parks in AZ, but those are in the poor parts of town, and not a lot of people I know live in them.
