Have her tell the school now. Missing that much school will generate a bit of homework. Perhaps some of your teachers would let you work on assignments early so you won't have such a huge burden of homework when you get back.
I wouldn't worry about thinking up something to tell them other than you will be on a family vacation.
Have a great trip! |

um you realize that it is common courtesy to inform your school 2 weeks prior to leaving if you are going to miss school.
your mom should have sent in a note for you to give to the office and then you should have told all of your teachers.
make sure your mom writes a note in the morning for you to take. it should just say that you are going to disney world from this date to this date and if they can talk to your teachers about getting homework and that you will also be informing your teachers and ask for any assignments and to call her if they have any concerns.
and then in each of your classes tell the teacher and ask for assignments that will be done the dates you will be gone and ask if you could have them prior to leaving so you can try to do some of them before the trip.
you and your mom need to realize that it is your responsibility to get all homework done by when ever each teacher wants them.
this is alot to take on but this is the kind of thing you have to think about before cutting school to go to disney world.
and don't get me wrong i see nothing bad about taking time off school to go to disney world and i did it many many times BUT i also got all my assignments done and handed in when i got back. |

You folks are smart to be going now, before it gets too hot and too crowded.
Your parents should let the school know you are going to be gone, and for how long. And you should be prepared to do whatever it takes to keep up with your assignments.
Have a great trip! |

My friend went to disney land and he was there for 1 week and a few days. All he had to do was tell the teacher his family was going on vacation and he gave the teacher the dates of when he was leaving and when he was coming back. |

You asked... I answered

All your mom has to do is call and say that she is taking you out of school for a week... your mom ought to know how to do that. She is an adult.
It's no big deal as long as your legal guardian calls to let them know. I have missed many days/weeks of school when my parents took me out to go to Disney. |

Have your mom right you a note so that the school will know that you will not be there. Also ask your teachers if they have any work that can be done while on vacation. You can do your work on down time so you will not be behind when you get back. You are saying you are going to miss 7 days of school, so I assume that you are going for around 10 days. I hope you have alot of fun. And by the way most of the schools are aware of Disney's offers going on, so they will not be surprised that you are going. |

The school district my kids went to had a very strict attendance policy. More than 20 days missed in the school year (whether these were excused absences or not) and you didn't get credit for your classes.
Your mom should be honest about it and also ask for all of your assignments. Make it clear that you will keep up with your work. Then they really can't object. Your parents ultimately are the ones who made this decision; they shouldn't take it out on you.
I did this when my son was in 2nd grade, which, of course, is a whole other thing from 8th grade, but he did his schoolwork during the plane trips back and forth. |

You will have work to make up so be prepared for that - it would have been common courtesy to inform the school as early as possible.
There may be things that you will not be able to make up - there will be instruction that you will miss and no one is obligated to reteach you so you will need to apply yourself when you return.
I took my kids out for a week to go to Florida - I had their work in advance and the teacher had some projects - related to their trip that they had to do instead of some assignments.
Mom needs to notify the school that you will be gone for family reasons or you will be truant which opens a whole new can of worms. |

yes. One must get written permission from the superintendent before the leave and do all assigned work from the teachers during the trip or before leaving. |

Just tell them you are going on a family vacation and you will be back in a week.
My mom used to pull me out of school for 2 weeks to go to Florida every year until high school
Have fun! |

If you live in Georgia, more than 5 unexcused absences means automatic failure.
ETA: Why did I get thumbs down for stating the law in Georgia? If they are in GA it doesn't matter how the mother tells the school that they will miss 7 days due to vacation. It will mean failure of that grade and most likely a call to child protective services. |

Tell your school, that it is family matters.
Like someone died in the family and such.
Because schools are bitchy and won't let you go for fun. |
