Is it possible to have a Bon Fire in the winter time?

I wanna celebrate my 21st b-day with a bunch of friends and I thought a bon fire would be a great way to celebrate, only thing is I know bon fires are usually done in the late spring summer and my birthday is in Jan. And I also live in Southern CA.

I don't see why you couldn't...Dockweiler allows fire ring type fires. One got so out of hand last weekend that from a distance it looked like a plane had crashed at LAX...not kidding......

It's a good time. We always go to Bolsa Chica Beach. They have tons of bon fire pits. You have to be done by 10:00 pm though.
The wind is also a factor in Jan.
That beach is between Huntington Beach and Sunset Beach.

If you live in SoCal, then you should know that the answer is yes.

Bon Fires are great any time of the year.. Especially when you are having one with your friends.. I used to have Bon Fires like every weekend no matter what the weather was like,( rain,snow,sleet,rain,etc.). Good food, grill, drinks, oh what fun... Just make sure you can have bon fires and make sure it is watched carefully.. HAVE FUN...

Might be a little cold, but there are the beaches:

If you want to have a fire at the beach, they are allowed at these beaches, which have designated fire pits:

Mother’s Beach (Marina Del Rey)
Dockweiler
Cabrillo
Bolsa Chica
Huntington State Beach
Corona Del Mar

Of these, Bolsa Chica is my favorite. Note that there is no camping at any of the above beaches.

Places like Leo Carillo, Doheny, and San Onofre don’t count in my book because you have to book a campsite, and you aren’t really on the beach (except for Doheney Beachfront sites.

Absolutely, That's a great idea.

Well, I don't think you will have to worry about snow on the ground living in Southern Ca, so I say go for it!!

I read that speech above...Wow
At the beach keep the fire in the ring and in check. Watch the surroundings.

Your O.C. Paisano
Let me see. Someone starts to put a llttle tack weld on a cable on Catalina Island and sets the entire island on fire...evacuating everyone to Long Beach. Marines are called in to help put out the flames. A homeless person in the hills near Griffith Park falls asleep smoking and sets the entire Griffith Park area on fire including hiking trails and a famous botanical garden. Fire blazes all the way to the newly renovated observatory and children's play area. Another fire on the adjacent hill was set two days ago. Someone grinding sets a little fire in the Santa Barbara Mountains and sets the entire county on fire. The Zaca fire is still blazing into Ventura and is now the largest fire in California history having burned 241,000 acres . It is now in Ventura county and is not expected to be contained until some time next month. Smoke is choking people; ash is falling everywhere and the ominous smoke clouds can be seen into L.A. Recently arsonists light a little fire near San Bernardino and before you know it Crestline, Cedarpines Park, Arrowhead and the sides of the mountain get the worst fire damage in its history. Wind gusts blow palm fronds onto power lines and then onto a roof in Anaheim and before you know it, Many apartments buildings are on fire on Mayor Pringle's first day in office. Someone torches a car on the toll road near Anaheim Hills and before you know half of Anaheim Hills and Yorba Linda is on fire. Abon fire used to be legal in Central California (near Visalia) but i doubt any permits will be issued in So Cal. Go to the beach and use the fire pits. Actually, here are the ones that do have fire pits.:

Dockweiler Beach
Mother's Beach
Cabrillo Beach
Bolsa Chica State Beach
Huntington (City) Beach, south of the pier
Corona Del Mar Beach (just south of the Newport Beach jetty)

All of these have fire pits. Of these, my favorite is Bolsa Chica.

Hey there
Check with the fire department first, because they may not issue burning permits during that time. I only say that because I dispatch the fire/police for my county, and as you know, California fires get out of hand quickly. However, having a birthday in January, as I do, you usually get stuffed on having some fun birthday stuff. Because you live in southern CA, where its not really that cold (unlike two feet of snow I have to deal with in Jan.) it should be fun to have a bon fire and a little unexpected. I don't see why not, as long as your with your friends, you should have fun!

Take a look at the dry hills. Padre National Forest is on fire. Air quality in Santa Barbara is horrible because of this fire. Half of San Diego, San Bernardino, and part of Riverside County burned a couple of years ago. Do you think it is a good idea? If it get out of hand you could be looking at prison time.
