Yeah, good luck with that one. The inside of a car can get near 180 or more in no time. |

save that 800 and get shitfaced at your new pad. by the time summer rolls around you'll save up money again to get that a/c installed. btw its cheaper here to do car sevice then in arizona. and the gas prices might drop again |

this is a few days after you asked it but I want to help you. When I was little and my parents split up we moved out here from california and we had leather seats... what my mom did with me and my sister is bought spray bottles and put ice water in it and sprayed our face with it. It sucked but we lived...Also make sure you get a windshield cover thingie so when you get out of your car to go in the store it shades the dashboard so it isn't as hot when you get in. One more thing, leave the window slightly cracked when you get out of the car it makes a big difference. Good luck and wear tank tops:) p.s. if you heave leather seats sit on a towel. |

My hubby grew up in Phx in the 50's before A/C. He said they used to put an ice chest in front of the vents to blow cold air...they also used to wet towels and drape them on their legs. Back then you could leave the windows down when parked though so it wouldn't get so broiling hot inside the car.
His parents still live in Phx, we visit often. Believe me, it'll be the best $800.00 ever spent. Have you checked out what it costs to have it installed in AZ? maybe less...it's cheaper for us to have our A/C serviced in Phx than it is here in L.A.
You'll survive the winter in Phx without, but not the summer. If you are relocating to Flagstaff, you won't need A/C. |

I had to live a couple of summers with no A/C in my car. Mornings and nighttime are usually okay with the windows down.
Car fans don't do much, just blow hot air around.
My biggest secret for daytime driving was realizing shade made all the difference. Park in the shade, even if it's the farthest spot. You'll notice in the summer that in all parking lots, cars will cluster around trees or high walls. If you go to movies or other activities where the sun will have moved during the day, park where you think the shade will be when you are getting back to your car. |

We're all assuming your moving to Phx or the surrounding areas...if that is the case...
I grew up in Phoenix and I lived in a house with no AC, attended a school with no AC, took the city bus or owned a car with no AC (that the windows did not go down it) for the 18 years I lived there (I am 24, so this was not that long ago). I hate heat and currently live in Flagstaff, AZ where it is generally 20-30 degrees cooler...but I survived.
As someone else said, get a good window shade and if possible get your windows tinited as much as you legally can to block out the sun. Always park in the shade. Car fans do just blow hot air around...but trust me, it is better than the still heat. Make getting your AC fixed your first priority. Take advantage of the time you spend in air conditioned locations. Be sure you have a steering wheel cover and other metal and hard plastic items in your car covered....they all get too hot to touch. If you have leather or plastic upohlstery, you will be miserable...at the very least put down a thick towel or get seat covers. Thats all the advice I can think of. The down side to moving to Phx with no AC is it gives you a very neative view of the city. Good luck!! |

Sorry! those car fans are going to blow nothing but HOT air in your face. They are useless when it's 110 - 118 outside. Last year was the record breaker for most days over 110, so who knows what this summer is going to be like. People do it without A/C in their cars, but I bet it's people that are born and raised here. No matter where you go, you'll get caught up in traffic, so that just makes it worst. |

In Central or Southern AZ? It's not against the law but it's against good sense! Good luck without it. |

OMG. You are going to hate it. I had to drive around with no air conditioner in my car for a whole summer a few years ago. I had leather seats that made it worse and had to park in the sun all day so when I got off work at 5:00pm my car was scorching hot. By the time I would get home from work I would be drenched with sweat and I would have a headache. I tried a portable fan but all it did was blow hot air and didn't help at all. You can do it but you will be miserable. Maybe take the bus if you can. |

Your gonna be reaaly hot and sweaty in the summer! Parking in the shade will help some, but the sun shade will only help your stearing wheel from getting scorching hot. When you get to AZ look around for a place to fix your a/c for less. You may be able to get a rebuilt part for a fraction of the cost. AC is big business there! People want to stay cool. You will be ok until about mid July and suffer until October. If your going to be in the car for long periods consider wearing shorts and changing clothes when your get to where your going. I grew up in AZ and we didn't have air in cars and survived. Sitting in traffic is brutal, but at least you can cool off when you get to your destination. Always have water with you and try to stay cool. Good luck! |

I didn't have a/c in my car for my first summer in Phoenix. I survived. It wasn't pleasant by any means. I rolled down all windows & drove a little faster. I also carried a towel with me to mop up the sweat on my face. This is a true story! Maybe we should initiate all newcomers with this method. |

Let me tell you something......when I first moved to Phoenix it was summer, I had a black car with no a/c and only one window was working (electric windows/coupe). It was hell! Made me very grumpy by the time I got where I was going. A fan is only going to blow more hot air on you. I'd suggest stopping by a gas station and getting a gallon of cold water and keeping it nearby! |
