i think you would get about 10 miles away, and turn back around. |

You'd make it probably a fifth of the way I'd say or less especially in this heat. What are you going to do if one of your tires pops? On top of that, you really can't live off those snacks and you need the proper nutrition to go that distance. 20 bottles of water is like nothing for a journey that far. You would need to make many pit stops and get supplies along the way. Don't do it, kid. It really is not a good idea. |

Dude, your legs will probably give out before you run out of money and $30 bucks is not nearly enough to feed yourself on the road. Deal with your parents at least until you're 18 and can get a job.
I live in Los Angeles and it's full of teenage bums and addicts.
What do you expect to do once you get to California? |

Well what part of california? lers pretend you are going from los angeles to .... corpus christi texas thats 23 hours away in a car and about 2 in a plane. so if you drive in a car 75 per hour and theres 23 hours ... And your going in a bike thats how many miles per hour in a bike? maybe? 8 ? lets just pretend you can ride your bike for 8 miles in one hour so in 23 hours youll make 184 miles! that dont even get you to indio california you know the coachella valley! and carrying all that stuff? you are gonna get tired and give up soon. if in a car you get tired of the scenery know imagine the bike. oh and you should think about this sereously because it is very dangerouse and what if you dehidrate what if you are too cold to peddal what if your tires pop what will you do? what if you get lost? what if someone steals you? what i you loose your money? what if you get sick? what if your parents die of a heart attack because you are missing? what if you need to use the restroom and there isnt any? what if theres no where to shower and your arm pits smell? DONT DO IT !!!! STAY HOME SAFE!!! |

Yes, it's possible, but you'll need more than $30. Also, I wouldn't try to carry 20 water bottles. Maybe just a few that you can refill along the way.
What risks? Sunburn, heatstroke, hit by truck, broken bike, out of money/food, arrested for trespassing, all sorts of stuff.
Depending on what part of TX you're in and where you're going in California, it could take between 10-20 days at best.
Why don't you just save up and take the bus? |

probably

Are you kidding? The absolute minimum distance between TX and CA is a little under 400 miles, from the easternmost point of TX south-easternmost point of CA. Ever taken a 400 mile bike ride? That would take weeks, and require a hell of a lot more than "30 bucks for snacks." It's certainly possible, but you'd need a LOT more resources than you listed. Just go to a friends house dude, 400+ miles is overkill for just wanting to get away from your family. If you really want to, you'd be much better off buying a bus ticket. Far cheaper and less time-consuming. Also don't forget to consider the return trip. |

Absolutely not. I have driven this many times. This time of year you will DIE in the desert. You don't have enough money to even make it to Phoenix, AZ. Nighttime temperatures are still around a 100%. Besides all that the Highway Patrol will stop you and bring you in because you are under age. There is also a chance of someone offering you a ride and you take it because you are desparate to get out of the heat. You could be assalted and killed and no one would ever known what happened to you. You just dissapear. |

if i were u on that looooong ride, id be scared! the roads at night would be dark, were are u gonna sleep besides a sleeping bag?? there are crazy people out there that can harm you while you sleep! next thing u know, they're making a horror movie based on a true story (YOURS). just stick around with ur parents. Get a job so that u have time away from them, and that way u make money for college where u can get some more education so that u have a good job! |

u probably wont last long. it will be to heavy first off to carry all of that on ur bike. AND what r u going to do when u get there if u get there? It might be nice to think of running away now, but you have to think of the future after u run away and what to do. If ur 16, y dont u just drive.....???? |

It's possible, but in the middle of summer I wouldn't chance it. People that have done long-distance rides like that take years to plan and calculate it just right. Don't do it. |

I once drove from Long Beach CA. to El Paso Texas in 18 hour. IN A CAR. It was a thousand miles. By bike it'll take you days and days, but you can say you did it when you were 16...Go for it and be safe. |

best have an extra tire...summer roads are totally hot.....dont think thats enough money....risks include ppl throwing things at you while you are riding(i.e. beer bottles, etc), trying to hit you with vehicles, etc...length of trip depends on how many miles a day you intend to pedal....good luck |

wow that sounds like a great adventure, but your gonna need more than 30 bucks and you'll need to eat cheap the whole time like go to mcdonalds
proboly the biggest risk is falling off your bike and getting hurt or if your riding though a dangerous part of a town at night |

People ride across the country all the time. I don't know that I'm going to encourage a 16 year old to do it, though.
There's this guy, Gary "Walkingman" Hause, who biked across the whole US several times. Now his goal is to walk across the world. He walked across the entire US from coast to coast.
You'll need more than $30, but you can survive on less than you might imagine. |
