I try to be fair to say that everywhere in US is the same.
I mean anywhere always has good and bad things. Can you tell me a state which has no crimes at all?
Yes, California has some places infamous for crimes like South Central Los Angeles. But the truth is California also has a city named Irvine and it is the safest city in the US in the last 5 years. Mission Viejo, a neighborhood of Irvine is also on the top ten. I don't make up the facts. You can do the research and find out by yourself. (Sorry, I haven't seen any city of Idaho on the top ten lists.)
Go back to your question, if you think of working at public transportation, you should choose the big cities like San Francisco or Los Angeles. The living at big cities are expensive but you get paid higher than anywhere else. So, you should consider those factors.
Besides, you stated that you're "honest Spanish". Then California may be perfect for you because it is one of the states which have very strong Hispanic communities. If you prefer, you can easily find friends who speak Spanish everywhere at any education levels.
Finally, as you said that you're still young and not married, why don't you give yourself a try? You're free to come and leave anytime you want.
The best thing is visit California first and make decision later.
Again, California is a very big state, so you need to do the research and decide the destination(s) you want to come.
My last suggestion is don't listen to the outsiders. Come, see, and test it by yourself!
Good luck! |

no! california is so beautiful and the weather is perfect and theres everything to do nearby. i love the cultural diversity and great food. i just love everything about cali. i think you would like it too, unless youre not fond of large cities |

Saying that all of California is dangerous is like saying all people from Idaho are potato farmers. If you want to go to the southern part of California near los angeles, don't venutre into the South and East LA areas those are pretty dangerous. San Francisco is very nice although there's a problem with homelessness there. Most of the areas around San Francisco is safe except for Oakland. The central valley areas of california aren't so safe, this includes Stockton and Modesto |

There are safe parts of California and unsafe parts of Cali. Stay away from the seedy sections of the larger cities and do your homework and you'll most likely be fine. |

No, it's not dangerous. Sure, there is bad stuff happening on the news every day, but it only affects a few people. I live in California, and I've never thought of it as dangerous. |

no i have lived in cali all my life and i have never seen any danger and i live in a somewat dangerous area. the only place that l think is dangerous is east l.a. and some parts of fresno.the most dangerous thing in cali is getting sunburnt or getting hit by a car if you cross a street with no lights. |

It depends on the area you're talking about. Not all parts of California are dangerous. |

NO!! california isnt any more dangerous than any other state, It's the BEST state because we have the best of every world, heat, snow, deserts, beaches, mountains, forests, lakes, HUGE city, small suburbs, diversity, and people are free to live the way they want. With so much more liberties and so many people, california is an awesome place. The SF Bay area for example... drive one hour in any direction and you get- beach, wine country, forests, citys... anything you want!! The weather is super mild... never too hot or too cold... and you can be gay, straight, foreign, liberal, conservative, ANYTHING you want!
On the down side, living is more expensive, because your paying to like in such a beautiful place... But dangerous??? unless you owe a crack dealer a shitload of money i think youll be fine .. Hehe, some humor...
There Is No Place Like Cali In The Whole World!!
hope this helps.... and if your looking for love, this is the right place!! =) |

Cali. is definitely not inherently "dangerous". No need to disclose a full list of "good" and "bad" areas... your eyes will tell you that! Even if you wander into a questionable area, as long as you don't go out of your way to be conspicuous you likely won't even be noticed (especially if you stay in your car and are just driving from point "A" to point "B").
Suggestions: Northern California for culture, Southern California for fun (skip the central valley... not much to see or do). Obvious attractions are the beaches and amusement parks... but if you have time the mountains can also be a lot of fun (and the people are generally exceptionally friendly in those areas... Lake Tahoe is awesome!). Favorite California city: San Diego... has it all (clear water beaches, sun, attractions, best weather, and is less than 2 hours from all that the L.A. area has to offer)... an no, I'm not from San Diego... but we routinely make the 100 mile trek down from our Los Angeles county home to San Diego. |

WILL YOU PEOPLE STOP SAYING CALIFORNIA IS DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!! It annoys the crap out of me that people watch gang violence on TV and assume California is full of drug dealers on every corner. The only thing that's bad in California is that it costs a lot of money to live here. NOTHING ELSE!! If you want affordable living, California is not for you! If you want affordability, might I suggest Las Vegas, NV, or Seattle, WA |

Before you cross the California line, make sure you are a documented potato farmer. Because here in California we turn in every undocumented potato farmer coming from Idaho. Yeah listen to your fellow potatonian err Idahoan, don't come to California because its very dangerous here. Us Californians have sex everywhere because we can and because this is not a moron err Mormon state. Stay in Idaho. I don't want to see you selling potatoes on our freeway off-ramps! |

If you want Hispanic areas, stay in the greater Los Angeles or San Diego areas.... Los Angeles, the city itself, is over-crowded, graffiti-laden, and there IS a great percentage of crime! Alot of the stores are actually in Spanish, so you might like that:) Public transportation might not be the greatest idea for a young girl, especially after dark...and it's very expensive. You might like to look at Riverside, in Riverside County, which has a high Hispanic population, but has alot of very nice & safe areas, and is alot less crowded (and cheaper) than Los Angeles....... |

Consider Portland, OR instead of California. They have a great public transportating system, it's cheaper to live and is still a large city. It's a very pretty city, too. |
