I live in Florida, almost all my life, and I personally love it. Its true its more expensive but its just a completely different culture. I lived in NJ (no offense) for 6 mths and was completely MISERABLE!! Everyone (that I saw) dressed in drab colors and never smiled, no one spoke to eachother, skies were always gray, and it was so cold!!! In FL, its easy to make friends..everyone seems so much happier!! Yes, its harder to get jobs...depending on what your career is. Florida does have a bad rap, but thats only bc people watch the news and only see the bad things...which happen in every state. What about all the good that happens here? You need to make yourself happy!!! There are places here that are cheaper than others...so you just need to think about the area you want to live in. Do some research and go from there. If you want help you can email me. Good luck on your endevours!!!! |

I Don't Think So But I Love Florida.
I Have Never Lived There But Have Visited Lots And I Loved It, But You Should Try It Out And If In A Few Months Or Even A Year You Don't Like It Then Move Back.
But I'm Really Thinkin' About Moving There.
Good Luck With What You Decide |

Honestly, I don't think the best time to be trying Florida is when the economy is tanking if you aren't very secure financially. A bad economy tends to bring out the con artist and hardballing from the landlords to the police. A lot of people will try harder to take someone's buck. There tends to be an increase in crime. We're up for a new murder record in Orlando, and we've been beating Compton w/our dangerous crime rate.
The job market is looking less bright and we have one of the very highest foreclosure rates in the country.
Take a vacation, look around if you like, but think twice before making the move. |

Your rent is dirt cheap compared to $1200 a month minimum where the vacation spots are. Can you stand the heat in florida? Visit first and see what is there that you might be able to do for work. Pick up a local paper and check out how much rents are. Dont be fooled by vacation spots, the people who have to live and work there will tell a very different story than do the people vacationing there. |

Man, don't listen to these people. I feel your pain, buddy.
I lived in Virginia and one autumn weekend when the first chill came through, I decided to toss my stuff into the car and carry my butt to South Florida. When I got here, I did ok. But I'll tell ya', I wandered around like a tourist for the first year. It was warm, the palm trees were everywhere, and it was all beautiful. That was 24 years ago. I have never looked back.
If you can just toss your stuff into a car (or U-haul your gear down here and throw it into storage for a month), then you need to start browsing the classifieds in the local online newspaper sites to job openings, and also Yahoo Jobs and Monster. The jobs are here if you do your homework. And you can rent a room too...no prob.
Here are the Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale newspapers. I didn't put the Miami paper in here because Miami sucks. You need to speak Spanish in Miami to get by, and besides that, it's heading towards third world status...out of control.

Don't forget Monster and Yahoo Jobs.
See ya' when you get here. You're buying the beers! |

I love it here, im going on 11 years. You can find rent for $450 if you do what you do now and live in someones home. Finding a job may depend on what your resume looks like, There are so many things to do here, beach, theme parks state parks, zoos, and can go on, and its all within 15-45 minutes from orlando metro area |

Florida is awful. I lived there for two years and will never do it again. Nice to visit, sure, but the people are horribly rude, the lifestyle is fast-paced (I got flipped off for traveling the speed limit), and it's incredibly expensive. $450 a month is CHEAP. My sister lives in a trashy trailer park where people are shot and robbed on a regular basis -- and her trailer costs $130,000. She makes about the same amount of money I do living in the midwest, and my house (bigger than her trailer and in a really safe neighborhood) cost half of hers.
Expect to pay triple what you're paying in rent, and good luck finding a job to cover it.
Go ahead and give it a try if you want, but make sure you have something to fall back on. |

i guess i would b the best to answer this question. i live in fort lauderdale FL about 15min from the beach. the rent around here starts at about 1000 a month for a pritty decent pals (800 for the hood) jobs r ok to find not as hard as some places. most of the places hireing want a particular skill and some experience. i work as a machinist and for me finding a jod is mad easy. off ice jobs im not too shure about but down town has a lotta office buildings. you shuold b fine if you have a trade or a skill of some sort. the neighbor hoods r ok. we have a lotta clubs nice beaches malls all that stuff. but bc of all that cool stuff housing prices r high. but im shure you could find a nice place inna good negbor hood for the low.
i lived here all my life btw |

Even the most beautiful places comes with something negative.
Florida has beautiful weather....but you have to deal with the seasonal hurricanes.
Only you can decide if it's worth it.
I love to vacation in the Keys.....but I wouldn't want to live there. |

I live in Northern Virginia! Admittedly, it is a good place to find jobs, but I'd kill to live at the beach. I'm not super knowledgable on the housing market, but it probably isn't terribly cheaper to live in Florida. If you're willing to make a long commute to work, there's Ocean City, MD and Rehoboth Beach, DE which are a little closer to the DC Metro Area.
I know you aren't too keen on going out to CA, but I believe there are a number of jobs in advertising and marketing in the SoCal area if you have a change of heart. Housing is going to be more expensive in LA, but believe or not, you could find somewhere relatively cheap in Orange County because the distribution of wealth is majorly skewed. However, the areas in which you'd find cheap housing wouldn't exactly have low crime rates.
I don't really know anything about job availability in other coastal areas, so hope I helped a little. |

Count yourself lucky. Come to England where we pay £450 a month for a flat (e. $750) with inflation busting bills on top. You wont be complaining anout moving to florida after a month here! |

It is awful to live in Florida. It's crowded, the governor is a goofball, it's hot, and, most importantly, the current natives will resent you for being here.
You will not find homeowner's insurance on the coast.
The entire state will be out of water in 15 years.
Find somewhere else to live. |

Florida's a big hurricane spot.
It's got some great beaches, but I don't know of the jobs there, since I was only very little when I lived there.
I don't think you're gonna like it very much.
The animals there aren't too friendly, and what I remember of it, was that for long periods of time, it would rain every day really hard at the exact same time. |

$450 / month is dirt cheap. You wont do much better than that.
Florida is actually a great place to buy property right now because the values are so depressed.
The only drawback is that living in Florida sucks monkey b@lls. So maybe that's why the houses have gotten so cheap. |
