LOS ANGELES -
Gas Prices
Currently $3.40 - $3.90

Rent
1 bedroom ranges from $700 - 1400 depending on area
2 bedroom ranges from $900 - 2200 depending on area
Average 1 bedroom is probably $1100, average 2 bedroom probably $1500
To rent a house ranges from $1400-$3000
Use www.craigslist.org
Be sure to get one with central A/C and heat as well as some sort of parking. Parking is important in L.A.

Real Estate
Condos average from $300,000 - $600,000. I have seen some condos for $150,000 - $300,000 but in worse areas or they are something called "co-ops which I am not exactly sure what that is. HOA fees for condos range from $150-500 depending.
Houses also average from $450,000 - $800,000 depending on the neighborhood. In more ghetto areas houses are $300,000-450,000 (or it's a smaller or run-down house). Use www.craigslist.org and www.ziprealty.com to find housing.

Bills
Are suposed to be a little higher than average but I'm not really sure

The Mr. Pine
Generally yes. Housing is astromonical. Dining, way.
Minimum wage is 6.75 and proposed at 8.00.

dante_cubit_3000
Yes, however I pay happily to live in this paradise.

IWIU
Yes, it's more expensive than ever

It wasn't too bad 10 to 15 years ago, but now everyone is so greedy, they do anything to get money.

food, housing, almost everything is way out of control.

Well according to your financial status it may be. Housing and apartments are really unbelievable. not worth it. Food is not too bad in restaurants, but can be expensive. Apartments run in good neighborhoods between $800 to say $1400 for one person. IF you pick LA itself prices are higher. Food markets have many discounts. At the same time wages are higher. I personally would not consider moving there unless you have a good paying job offered. I previously lived in LA for 22 years and would not move back.

Yes it is.

Many things are. Real estate is probably the worst though. Over $1M in my area to by a crappy little house.

jessikuh
yes. cali is hella expensive. i should noe. housing is wayy outta control and gas prices are hiiiiigh. traffic is bad too. but yes. expensive it is.

jasonjas
Yep... unless you're in an 'unwanted' place in California. I don't know where that would be, but there probably is a place like that.

katie♥
yep

Kitikat
I've heard the cost of living is higher there.

hisChamp
YES. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and after 43 years, I left for the high desert in So. Cal. Now I own my own home.

Yes and I live here.. but I think we are going to move.

California is really expensive. In southern part of California to live in a 1 bedroom apartment in a nice neighborhood is over 1000 dollars. To live in a one bedroom apartment is about 700. Gas is over 3 dollars. To ride the city bus is also expensive. Food is also expensive.

it depends on what you are comparing it to. i moved here from ny. i am paying 500$ LESS for my apartment here then what i paid there. but food is so much more expensive in cali
