Just for every ones INFO the last guys information on MS 13 is WRONG! MS13 is a Salvadoran Gang NOT Mexican.....and yes they are making it public so that every ones who they are! google MS13 and get your information right before you give false information!

Rickinno is wrong, wrong, wrong. MS13 is very real, very violent and NOT at all just street punks. They are NOT Mexican either. They started in El Salvador and are mostly Salvadorian and Honduran. Many respected journalists have reported extensively on them. You need to read more about them. I heard about the initiations too-but to take place in Miami. I have not seen anything specific online and no one who has sent around emails is able to verify the validity of the claims. I am going to contact Miami Dade Police to find out. I will get back to you if I find anything out. Be careful out there!

Honestly, it is probably an urban myth.

That being said, it is a method that has been used before to rob people. If worried, if by chance your car is in an accident, stay in the car and dial 911 for an officer. Otherwise drive to well lit area with many people around to exchage info.

The rumor going around is that they will pull up behind you and ram your car when you stop at a light or stop sign or something. Then when you get out to talk to them/exchange information/check out the damage, they shoot you.

Of course I was told this by my brother, who heard it from a friend, who's roommate's friend heard it from someone who heard it from a cop. Sounds like an urban legend to me.

Besides, this was supposedly this past week, and I haven't seen one thing on the news about someone getting shot like that.

Please be careful. I asked a couple police officers at work if this was true and they confirmed that they were on the look out for this initiation this weekend. Those guys are frightening, if you can avoid driving this weekend please do.
I was just out driving and a group of teenagers almost crashed into us and then flashed us that gang signal when I swerved out of the way. I have no idea if it was really ms 13 or some stupid kids trying to scare me, but it worked.
Basically I'm just trying to say to please be careful.

It's just an urban myth.

Like the other guy said, it would be pretty stupid if they told everyone about it. They could get busted that way.

well, i got that text too. and i heard it was a national initiation day. but i just heard that it was yesterday. but if you don't feel right, then don't go out. and it is true, they will bump your car, and if you get out, then they will shoot you without hesitation. and they are a latin gang. very dangerous. and they don't particularly like black people. i heard also that another initiation thing was to kill a black woman. i don't know if its true, but i am not going to take my chances. i think i may stay inside this weekend, just in case the initiation lasts through the weekend.

YES, it is this w/e and NO it's not an urban legend. Yes, the usual initiation is they rear end your auto and kill you when you get out of the car. They are known in some places for leaving dismembered bodies of victims but not necessarily at initiations. They also will often leave a note somewhere at the scene.
This is one of the largest, most International and most violent gangs known. They are the people the drug cartells use to carry out "hits" for them. This is the only (and if it happens they will be the first) gang that is being considered for being labelled as an organized crime group. They have become very organized in the last three years. The colors are blue and white (from the Salvedorian flag) and members are usually highly tattooed, esp. with the #s 13, 18, 67, or76, images of dice, blades and so on.
This is also no joke. The police are geared up for this for the entire w/e. Do not go out unless you need to and if you are rear ended do not stop and get out- instead drive immediately to the nearest police station-call them ahead on your cell if you have it with you- or call a news station- you should get promt response there.

This is the case despite rampant rumors circulating via email and text message in New York, Texas, Florida, California and other parts of the country, and the issuance of police warnings in some locales claiming "credible evidence" that the rumors could be true.

Some authorities are cautioning drivers not to pull over if rear-ended, noting the possibility of copycat crimes irrespective of whether the rumors are true or false.

The rumors are very similar to other "gang initiation" urban legends circulating for the past 20 years, including bogus warnings to the effect that aspiring gang members drive with their headlights turned off and attack other drivers who respond with a courtesy flash.

McCarthy Gipson has defended his department's decision to take the current rumors seriously by citing an actual incident earlier this month of a driver being shot after flashing his headlights at an oncoming car. "It appears that he could have been the innocent victim of a gang initiation rite,â€ Gipson told The Buffalo News. â€œWe have factual evidence that led me to make the determination to issue that alert, so weâ€™re not dealing with an urban myth here." Gipson also cited "credible information" from street informants.

i dont know about this initiation thing. but i live in VA.. and man. we've got ms 13 running around everywhere, all the crime here is from them. its nuts. i guess its the same all the way down there in texas. pretty crazy.

ok i have something to share with all of you here viewing this question. well today is april 1st, 2008. i'm am from the southwest area of houston (missouri city), and i heard that the gang is expanding even more around my area. i have been text messaged and all that about the whole ms 13 gang doing all kinds of things for the gang initiation like robbing people and shooting them, including the car bump thing. and yes it's an urban legend, but who's to say that a gang won't use it in reality? anyway i just want to let you people know that just a day or two ago my friends were robbed by two guys in the saltgrass parking lot on 59 and gessner. i don't know if you guys know the area but yeah. now, it COULD very possibly be just a coincidence. but then again, it might not be since the guys were hispanic or latin (i don't know too much about the technicalities of nationalities, so i apologize for any mistakes in that statement). and yeah i know that any minority can just rob someone but still... i have a feeling that it's part of the whole initiation thing that's going on. just be careful out there people. it doesn't hurt to take extra precautions.

The MS 13 are the most notorius gang in the nation!They are extremely violent.I've got a friend at work that recieved a text message at work and he had ask me about it.The text said that the MS 13 where going to meet up at a sucluded location at a certain time.I told him to forget it!Initiation like most gangs involve getting the crap beaten out of you for a certain length of time.My advice?Keep your pretty face!

MS 13 is a street gang of mostly Mexican illegal aliens who deal drugs in CA, Texas and some other southern States.

Since they're just a bunch of steet hoods I doubt they have any sort of formal 'initiation', and if they did they'd hardly publicize it and risk all getting shipped back to Mexico.

My husband just heard this at work - it's an email from someone at the school district police to local administrators:

"Information just received is that the gang MS-13 is currently
initiating new gang members and an incident has already occurred. Please share with your staff. The initiation is as follows, several gang members are in a car and do a slow moving tap (accident bump) to your car as you get out
to investigate they shoot you. This is not a joke. If you are involved in a minor accident I strongly recommend you go to a well populated area or lit area if at night and call the police. If any additional information is put out I will share it with you. "

Yes they are Salvadorians and it is no myth. It is this weekend in Houston it has already happened to some people I know so I suggest you just stay home this weekend.

MS 13 is realy I think, but people in Houston will use anything just to try to make Houston sound "tough".
