Is the US really a melting pot of cultures , if it is, will it always be that way?

Yes it is, we're almost all immigrants in some form, via our ancestors. Also we have high levels of immigration, so it will always be that way.

chloa.phorm
everyone is an immigrant

It absolutely is a melting pot - and thank god for that. I'd go crazy if I were constantly surrounded by the ignorance of a culture that wasn't welcoming to other nationalities, ethnicities, languages, food, and ideas. Everyone, outside of Native Americans, at one point or another, came from another country. It had better always be an assimilationist society - I'm pretty sure in New York it absolutely will. And if someone here doesn't like it, they shouldn't be here in the first place. They should go back to Idaho or Texas or whatever close-minded corner of the Earth they came from.

Depends on where you are. NYC is definitely a melting pot. While you will find areas dominated by one culture, for the most part everyone is mixed. Omaha is not quite a melting pot. There are some minorities and foreigners there, but not enough for it to effect the local culture. Overall, the US is a nation of immigrants. American culture is itself a mixture of other cultures. So yes, the US really is a melting pot.

It's more like a trail mix than a melting pot. You don't seem to get much melting these days.

The US is definitely a melting pot of cultures. There are many foreigners that have moved here. There are 150 religion denominations in the US alone. Italians, Chinese, Irish, Russian, and Germans are some of the main immigrants. I think that America will continue to be a melting pot of cultures, but that at the same time, the rest of the nations will as well. As people move to America to gain opportunities, Americans move else where for the same reasons. Hope this helps!

of course it is. the only native people are the Native Indians - everyone else immigrated to the US... You can't change history, so it will always be that way...

This is why i crack up at racist Americans and people who give immigrants a hard time. We all come from immigrants!! Unless you're Cherokee or Navajo...

I agree with Mark. It's not really melted together. It's more like a mosaic, where different, distinct pieces make up the whole picture.

mexican_missez
Yeah, it is a melting pot of cultures and it will most likely always be this way seeing as so many people can trace their ancestry back to several countries now due to interracial relationships.

candyapplecat
No. Soon it will be mexico.

Not really, with the rate of growth Hispanic population has it will obliterate all others. In time the US will resemble Mexico more than nowadays US.

robulusrexx
No, I'm sure one day one race will exterminate all the others and we'll be just comfy cozy.
