Is the rest of Michigan better than Detroit?

I found Detroit to be a dirty dump but people tell me that Michigan has it's good places. Where are they?

the farther north you go, the better it gets. especially along the coasts. traverse city area is great. the upper peninsula is great. tons of wildlife, not many people.

stpolycarp77
Look anywhere outside Wayne County.

LoL I am going to buy my house in detroit. I am going to sell my house in Compton California for 650k and buy a little house for 200k. Its not nice nor ugly,

Pretty much anywhere BUT Detroit. The north is beautiful and natural, and the west is much more cultural and clean. That said, I kind of like Detroit, but it isn't exactly a tourist trap.

I think it depends on what you are looking for. If its nature then there are some wonderful areas all throughout the state that are much nicer. If you are interested you should spend some time in Traverse City, or Gaylord boating and swimming in the summer, and Skiing in the winter. If you are looking for an indie rock band to blow your socks off though Detroit is as nice as you are going to find.

keep your eyes open, they are all around the great State

If you want a really good place, try the upper peninsula. It's a great place to live.

The best would have to be Traverse City, Frankenmuth, and Mackinac Island for tourists. And we certainly do have cities here the complete opposite of Detroit.

I think pretty much anywhere in Michigan is better than Detroit. I live on the west side of the state, in a rural area. I think it's pretty clean. Lake Michigan is beautiful. Some great places are Sleeping Bear Dunes, Pictured Rocks in the U.P., Mackinac Island, Frankenmuth. I like Sault Ste Marie. Please don't let Detroit color your opinion of the rest of our state!

Believe me there are worst areas than Detroit, MI. Highland Park & Hamtramck are much dirtier and dangerous. The best places are up North, also Macomb County and in Oakland county which is one the richest counties in the country. Grosse Isle is also nice with the lake front properties and mansions.

'Sunnyside Up'
Just as it is in any city in any state, there are nice places and not so nice places in them. Detroit has a lot of lower class living there but then so does anywhere in the USA or other country for that matter. America is a beautiful country. Michigan is a beautiful state. Where I live is absolutely gorgeous most of the time with lots of friendly folks and lots of things to do both in the city and neighboring cities and also in the country and along the lake shore. I'm sure if a person looks hard enough they could find nothing but bad about a place or nothing but good about the same place, no matter where they were.

Detroit is disgusting, but there are actually nice areas. In my opinion, up north is really nice. My parents live just outside Mackinaw City and have a 200 acre farm and they just love it up there. Basically, the whole state of Michigan is a dump to me with a few exceptions. Your best bet is to live out west. I came from vegas back to this hell hole and cannot wait to get back to Vegas and soon.
