Not the best. The worst drivers I have ever seen are in and around Atlanta. No one knows driving rules, I don't know how they got a drivers license. Especially when you come to a 4-way stop. Everyone sits there and looks at each other because no one knows who's turn it is to go....it's hilarious. And when you turn your turn signal on to change lanes the car next to you speeds up so you can't get over.....just plain inconsiderate. And if it rains people pull to the side of the road and wait for it to stop raining....unbelievable! And they think yield means race you out into the lane. Southern Hospitality....what's that? They think that if you are not from the South you are a Yankee. They have no clue of geography, because I am from the West coast. Food cost and utilities are sky high. And when they say y'all come back now, they really don't mean it. The only positive thing I can say about Atlanta, for it's size it's a clean city compared to other large cities in the country.

Absolutely not, I grew up in New England, and i love it here!

not at all, I just moved here from the midwest. It is hot (so's the midwest), but I'm lucky cause I live on the ocean. The people are nicer than the midwest by a long shot, gas is cheaper, but I noticed that food is more expensive. It's a different way to live, much slower, relaxed, not rush-rush. Also, people are not stupid here, everyone told me I lost IQ points moving here, but I'm finding that it's great, and the food is AWESOME!

no more than any other region

i always heard how the south is so racist but i lived in and around chicago and new york for a number of years and honestly that area was the worst. the balant racism i can deal with cause you know who your 'enemy' is but the hidden and underhanded bias truly shocked me and it was vicious.

i like the south because people (original southerners) are politer, nicer and easier going than other areas. everyone seems to just want to get along without getting into your business. although i also like some parts of the midwest and pacific areas.

If you like really hot weather. and it also depends on where your talking about.

No the south is just different. It has a lot of culture.

Although racism is alot more apparent down there

Smokingun what is funny about the word "culture". The south has it's own culture... You must not have ever been if you think otherwise.

Only if you are an out of place Yankee- We are a laid back crowd down here.

crazy_in_lov
I like living here. I grew up while my father was in the Navy so we moved around a lot. Of all the places that I've lived I like FL pretty well.
Its warm, nice beaches, most people are nice (southern hospitality) good jobs, plenty of history (both good and bad) and everyone is laid back.
Any place you live with have its ups and downs but overall I like living here.

Let's see....I am a Latina girl who moved from Los Angeles, CA to Augusta, GA in 1990. I had never experienced any sort of racism until I moved to GA. After 3 months, I finally quit the Olive Garden on Washington Road and went on to work for two major Augusta publications. Since I was neither Black or white, they weren't quite sure how to classify me. I thought it was quite funny, and after a while I managed to fit in.

My experience in GA was a positive one. It is true that people live in less than acceptable housing, and many do not have teeth, but from the historical aspect it is not to be missed.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have moved to a more suburban part of the south such as Atlanta, or Charlotte. The south today is rich in culture, and MUCH MORE diversified than it was 16 years ago. I believe it would be a great place to live today. It's affordable and more businesses are moving out that way due to more bang for the buck!

I'm back in LA now but I loved living in the South!

jonathan_liem
no way! I lived in Atlanta, and it is one of the extremely cultured, world-class cities of the world (and I've traveled a lot, so I know). And at the same time, it costs very little to live there compared to other large cities in the USA. You can make friends quickly: people are especially warm and polite, compared to new york, DC, chicago or southern california. its the BEST place to live!

Depends on where you live in the South. My husband and I have lived in Georgia all our lives. We moved from Atlanta to a smaller town in northeast Georgia (Toccoa). There is a lot of different cultures in Atlanta. In the smaller towns, everyone knows you and most are very friendly and would do anything to help you in difficult times. Crime is much lower in the smaller towns. You don't have to be afraid to take a walk in your neighbor hood. In Toccoa, everyone waves when you drive by. The smaller towns tend to be more family church oriented and if you are a Christian, you tend to get closer to the Lord in a small town. We travel all over the place and it's always nice to get back home to Georgia.

Not at all. It is great, especially in Atlanta. The key is what part of the South you chose to live in.
