There are many bridges connecting New York (assuming Manhattan) to Long Island (Brooklyn and Queens, though Nassau and Suffolk are also on LI, there are no bridges connecting Manhattan to Nassau and Suffolk):
-Brooklyn Bridge
-Manhattan Bridge
-Williamsburg Bridge
-Queensborough Bridge
-Triborough Bridge (as it will still be commonly known for quite some time, despite its new RFK name which will cost taxpayers $4mil for the MTA to change all the signs even though the MTA is crying poverty and wants to raise fares, but I digress)
-The Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel and the Queens-Midtown Tunnel also connect Manhattan to Long Island.
The Hell Gate Bridge is a railroad bridge connecting Queens to Randall's and Ward's Islands, which are parts of Manhattan.
There are some additional train tunnels connecting Manhattan to Brooklyn and Queens. Some construction is actually in progress to connect the Long Island Rail Road to Grand Central Terminal. Tunnel-boring machinery is moving as we speak -- very, very, very slowly.
The Roosevelt Island Bridge connects Roosevelt Island to Queens, so it technically connects Manhattan to Long Island.
Now, I assume you mean Manhattan when you say "New York," but keep in mind that Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island are parts of New York City as well. There are more bridges that connect, for example, Staten Island and the Bronx to Long Island via Brooklyn and Queens. They are:
-Verrazano-Narrows Bridge (Staten Island to Brooklyn)
-Bronx-Whitestone Bridge (Bronx to Queens)
-Throgs Neck Bridge (Bronx to Queens) |

Your question indicates that you are confused.
-- Long Island is part of New York State.
-- Two of the five boroughs of New York City (Brooklyn and Queens) are geographically part of Long Island. However, when people talk about "Long Island" meaning the suburban area, they usually don't mean Brooklyn and Queens -- they only mean Nassau and Suffolk counties, located to the east.
-- There is no bridge connecting Queens to Nassau County, because there is no water...you can just drive/walk over the county line.
-- If by "New York," you mean Manhattan (another of the five boroughs of New York City), then yes, it is connected by several bridges to the Brooklyn/Queens end of Long Island...these include the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, and Queensborough Bridge. |

You may believe your question says it all. But it leaves out one important fact. Part of New York is on Long Island.
Brooklyn and Queens are on the western end of Long Island. When most people say Long Island, they usually mean the eastern two-thirds of the island which are suburban.
All the bridges connecting Long Island with the rest of the world are in Brooklyn or Queens. The Verrazano Narrows connects Brooklyn with Staten Island. Manhattan is connected to the Long Island boroughs by several bridges and a tunnel. And a few bridges connect Queens with the Bronx. |

Yes Queens and Brooklyn are actually physically a part of Long Island - they are on Long Island, although technically a part of the city. Several bridges are attached. |

Shoredude2 and Amanda have the most accurate answers you are looking for. Most of the other answers do not properly take the geography into account.
If you read their answers while looking at a map, there should be no question as to what they are trying to explain. |

There is no bridge that connects directly from new york city and Long island. There are few bridges connecting from NYC to queens like queens borough bridge, midtown tunnel, throgsneck, triboro, whitestone, Brooklyn-queens expressway, Williams-bridge but nothing connecting directly to Long Island. To go to long island you have to take parkways and highways from queens - like Long island expressway, southernstate parkway, northern state parkway etc etc. |
