I wonder where Dorothy and Toto went to. No wonder she said that she didn't think she was in Kansas any more. Maybe she was traveling with the 1970's rock band 'Kansas.'

there are two parts to Kansas City: Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas.

Kansas City, Kansas is in Kansas. Kansas City, Missouri is in Missouri. Just like St. Louis is in Missouri but East St. Louis is in Illinois. They are both cities founded on the Missouri river, the same river that split the states splits the cities.

Well actually most people that have never been here, don't know that there are actually 2 kansas citys. There is kansas city, ks and kansas city, mo. Probably most of the stuff you here about Kansas City is refering to the Missouri one.

EDIT: Wow some of you guys need to pay attention in Geography.

beccagirl06
Sure it is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_City,_Kansas

Of course there is also KCMO. Its actually the larger and more industrial side of things. Most people in the area think of KCK being more of the ghetto. KCMO is more for yuppies. Kansas City Kansas used to have some really nice residential areas like 15 years ago, but its become more rundown.

I thought DC is a city.

G.C.
Kansas City, Missouri is more populated and where the sky scrapers are....the Chiefs and Royals Stadium, Sprint Center, the Plaza, etc... It is also where the history of that part of the country began. If you see a K.C. skyline on a postcard, you are looking at the Missouri side. Ward Parkway Estates and the Country Club District are both on the Missouri side and is where the elegant older homes and "old money" folks live.

Kansas City, Kansas is a very poor, run-down suburb and very industrial.

However, the most exclusive suburbs to Kansas City, Missouri is Mission Hills and Leawood, both of which are on the Kansas side. In addition, the largest suburb is Overland Park, and it is also on the Kansas side.

not the GOOD Kansas City, its in Missouri.
There is a Kansas City Kansas also. Its getting bigger and better every day.

Apparently Kansas city is in two places. 1. Kansas city Kansas and 2. Kansas city Missouri. If I'd pick the best one i would go with Kansas city because it is a lot nicer than Kansas city Missouri.

there are 2 parts. Kansas City, Missouri is the nicer area though. Downtown Kansas City is in Missouri. The Royals and Chiefs are in Missouri and so is the Sprint Center

It isnt?
How terrible. Us americans really need to learn our geography.

FYI....Peter D...St. Louis is on the Mississippi River not the Missouri River.

Generally towns in the US that are pretty populated and divided by a river that will run through 2 seperate states have the same name.

Half of it IS in Kansas... sure, the other half is in Misery (sic). In Colorado, there's a border town called "Kanorado, ".. maybe Kansas City should do something like that..
