There are no safe cities in the entire world. Not in the USA, Canada, South America, Europe, Africa. I don't care if you live in the best place in the world it don't make it safe. Some may be more unsafe then other, however; I'm 31yrs old and has lived in Detroit my entire life, I travel for my job as a food critic all over the world and I also like to travel as a hobby because I love to see new places. I will be the first to tell you that neither myself, nor my family or my friends have ever been robbed, beating, threaten, my house has never been broken into.
Every time I travel I can't spend no more then a week away without thinking I can't wait to get back to Detroit. Not because the other city were bad but because I miss home.
1. My advise be caution no matter where you are.
2. Pray for safety ever where you travel or any where you might choose to live.
3. Crime knows no city, and have no respect of a person, therefore; it will happen to anyone no matter where they are in the world.
But if you look for trouble then you might find it. |

First off I have lived here all my life. It is not the murder capital of the world, Caracas, Venezula is. However this is a dangerous city, it's not small minded, it is a fact. We have one the highest unemployment rates which leads people to do what it takes to survive. Thank goodness we got rid of our mayor who was setting the example that lying and manipulation are ways to achieve your goals. To be fair the suburbs have their problems also. The difference is the police response. This is a social and economic problem and Detroit has a problem and maybe the reason it dosen't get any better is people don't say "yea we have a problem here" Sorry for digressing. |

If you would like to enter addresses or intersections of Detroit, this website will give you information about the crimes committed in the area (last 30 days or less). You can judge for yourself how dangerous the areas are.

People from Grosse Pointe are not going to Detroit to commit crimes. Sounds like somebody's been listening too much to Kwame's Us vs Them speeches about how the whites are trying to take over Detroit, except that the whites abandoned Detroit 40 years ago and built up the suburbs. |

Basically all of Detroit is extreamly unsafe. The worst areas are the ghetto slum areas surrounding the downtown area (East side and West side). The central downtown areas isn't as bad but is still very unsafe. Stick with friends and don't talk to strangers and ignore guys that try to strike up conversations. Some will take the initiative to walk up to you to ask you money.
Best adivice: DON'T TALK TO ANYONE! |

As a Michigan resident. Who also wouldn't want to live anywhere but Michigan, and knows it as the best state... Detroit is all in all bad. This great state biggest city is terrible. What went wrong with that city besides the lost of jobs, crime is high, education is low... wouldn't recommand that area. ( Maybe in the future it will be okay.)
Although many people stay in the metro area of Detroit, I still wouldn't stay around there but I hear the metro cities are nice. |

There is no where safe in Detroit or any other city for that matter.
So if you want a list then buy a map of the city, that is your list. |

There isn't one safe place in Detroit, especially if your white. Basically Detroit is like a whole different country, nobody seems to follow the rules except their own. |

Only place I can think of is Warren and Connor. I live in Detroit and have no complaints. I find the first 2 answers rude and small-minded.
EDIT: The reason we say we don't have a problem here is because we don't. People who commit crimes in the City of Detroit are all not from Detroit. We have people from the suburbs who come to the city and sell drugs everyday. If the people from Grosse Pointe or any surburb of Detroit, did all their dirty work in their own city, then Detroit would not seem like such a bad place.
So to answer the question again, Detroit has some bad parts, but so does Clinton Township, Grosse Pointe, Birmingham and any other suburb around the city. |
