Move to Seattle?

I'm thinking about moving to Seattle, I've visited there a few times when I was younger and love it but I'm still not sure. What are the best things to do there as a 20 something??

"Living in Seattle is like having the most beautiful girlfriend in the world....

only she always has a cold!" - unknown

The summer months from July to September are simply sublime. Warm 80 degree weather day in and day out.

Seattle is also close to the mountains, the sea, and Canada. Whatever you are into, Seattle has it.

Walk in the rain, play in the rain, take the ferry in the rain, go shopping in the rain.

Splash in mud puddles, make mud angles.

OH move! I am from that area and now live in the south and get home sick often.

I don't know where to start.

Pike Place is more of a tourist place, but its good every once in awhile. If you are more into the bar scene Pioneer Square is the place. from dance clubs to little dives you will find all types of quirky little hole in the walls.

The Experience Music Project is a plus, not to mention that every weekend there is at least one artist that is in the area putting on a concert. The ballet, pro baseball, basketball, and football all in one town. Imax theatre.

Close to the ocean, less than an hour from the mountains. And you can catch the Clipper to Vancouver, which is only a 45 minute ride and spend a day in Canada.

These are also boat tour that allow you to go whale watching all year round. Sometimes its a little chilly, but oh so worth it.

There are never ending activities. I miss it, but I will tell you. Invest in an amazing umbrella. And if you are a coffee drinker there is a Starbucks at every corner to keep you warm.

Seattle is a beautiful and very green city to live in. However, about 9 mos out of the year, expect lots of gloomy weather, and frequent rain. Thus, the rate of depression is the highest in the nation. If you do not mind the weather, move there.

I've been to both Seattle and Portland. I suffered from a sever case of rust after one year in Seattle and moved to Portland where all my neighbors offered to assist me in committing suicide. I moved to New York City where everyone hates everything and everyone.

There are plenty of museums, parks, the zoo. World famous Pike Place market and the waterfront with the Olde Curiosity Shop. Whale watching tours. Pioneer Square and the Underground, the Space Needle and Seattle Center, the Arboretum.

Seattle is fun. Lots of clubs, the EMP, the Space Needle and a few zoos. The waterfront has an aqiarium, a public market, and there's even a waterfront trolley. Two beautiful ball parks for the Mariners and Seahawks (the Sonics will be leaving soon).

I would recommend that you go to school here or just visit, but to plan to be here forever is an expensive proposition. You can make decent money here, but the average cost of a house in King County was $405,000 in 2006!

Traffic is horrible - no, really!
Sales tax is currently 8.9%
Gas is $3.00 per gallon and going up

Theres quite a few clubs/bars downtown if youre into that. Honestly, there isnt anything you cant do there! It is so close to the ocean, mountains, lakes, rivers, you can do anything and not have to drive more than an hour to see it. I love going to the ocean and going waterskiing/boating. You can also hang out downtown at the market and stuff.

if you from the northwest, like washington oregon or really close to their. id say its a great idea. but if you arent i would not go for it. the weather their is really depressing for someone who hasnt lived their their whole life. be prepared for nine months of darkness and rain. seriously for about nine months you wont see the blue sky one time. try taking like a one week vacation their in the fall or winter and then after you see what its usually like make your decision.

As a born and raised Seattlite, I think the weather gets a bad rap. Sure we have a lot of cloudy, drizzly days (especially in November and December) but just as you start to get sick of it, there is always a great break in the weather. In February, there is always a week of cold, clear days. Then in the spring as well. I guess having never lived anywhere else, I don't know what it could be like, but it doesn't bother me. I actually miss the rain in the summer.

As for moving to Seattle, you should know that we have a reputation for not being very good friend makers. We all go from home to work and back again. We have our own friends and will be superficially friendly with new people, but not invite them into our circle. It's called a Nesting Culture.

Stay out of the rain

move to portland instead; its way cooler.

NW portland is the most youthful, trendy part of portland, perfect for us 20 somethings. there's an amazing bar scene, great music playing nightly at a variety of nearby venues, not to mention you're a short walk from downtown, china town, the river, and a number of parks..

----

yes, the pacific northwest is 'infested with liberals' but thats what makes it so freakin awsome!!
