Depends where you're working. If it's in downtown or close then Memorial, River Oaks, West University, and Bellaire. Pretty conservative and River Oaks and West University I think are old money places to live with class.

I know The Woodlands is a beautiful section located north of the Houston area.Anything around Rice University is good. The most expensive area is called River Oaks.Good luck!

I can tell you about Friendswood. It's very calm and nice. Pearland is one of the fastest growing Cities in the USA right now. I was told this by one of there Police Officers.

The Woodlands is over priced.
Spring is out in the woods.
Sugar Land has good schools if you have kids.
Also friendswood & Pearland are in the top.

Wow, there's a lot of misinformation in a lot of these answers. First you need to consider how far from work you want to live. Houston traffic is horrible most of the time, and if you're not careful, you could be spending 3-4 hours a day in your car. If you work downtown, you don't want to live in Katy (west). That drive ifs horrific. The Woodlands would be quite a drive too, but not as bad. As far as nice areas though, The Woodlands is very nice. Friendswood and Pearland aren't what people have been saying they are. They are both growing very fast, and both becoming very "diverse." There are good and bad neighborhoods in both of them. Most of Houston is like that. You can have very nice areas that are adjacent to crap holes. So, you really must visit the areas you're thinking of moving to. The Clear Lake area is also growing rapidly. There are plenty of things to do around there, but it's getting crowded really quickly. So, if I were you, I'd definitely visit a lot of places before making a decision. Good luck!

I would definitely go for North Houston:

The Woodlands, Spring, Tomball, Montgomery

Friendswood: I don't know, & Pearland - YUCK!

I live in Pearland and I like it. It's like a small town with all the benefits of a large city. It depends on what you are looking for in the city. I have lived in Clear Lake, Pearland, Westchase and Katy. I personally don't like the north sire of town. The Woodlands is expensive, snobby and too far from anything really. Spring is hit and miss. You have some nice, older neighborhoods and some really run down spots.

I depends on where you will be working, in what field and what type of things you want to be near. I can also suggest the Sugar Land and Katy/ Cinco Ranch areas.

The Woodlands and Spring are both nice areas, it just depends what you're looking for. The Woodlands tends to be pricier. I'm not to familiar with Friendswood or Pearland, but you might also consider Katy or Sugar Land.

FYI - It will easily take you an hour to get into downtown from any of these areas during rush hour.

the woodlands is nice....and i really like garden oaks, this neighborhood really close to the Heights. pearland is a REALLY nice subdivision. i know some people that live there and they like it a lot. : ]

I lived in the Spring area for a year, which is near The Woodlands, they are both very nice neighborhoods. Also Sugarland and Katy are nice. Pearland is nice, but I believe is near some shady areas. All these area are at least 30-40mins from downtown, but the commute during rushhour is much longer.

mickey
dunno, but make sure you have a/c during the summer. it's hot down there.

westguy18
Make sure you are use to HIGH humidity.

out of them all the woodlands is the nicest
its basically its own private city full of all the things you need, along with great people and great shopping and dining and schools

i highly recommend NOT for you to move into pearland and friendswood...thats where all the oil is manufactured and it smells horrible!
so in my opinion heres the order of where to live
woodlands
spring
friendswood
pearland (if your desperate)

All of them are pricy well to do neighborhoods and in my opinion if I could afford either one of them my choices would be either Friendswood or Woodlands but I know where Pearland is but I am not too familiar with it but I have been there a few times and to me it is average, It really just an in between neighborhood I would not choose it but to each its on. Spring is pretty good but Friendswoods and Woodlands are very well to do like 100,000 + homes and Atascocita and Kingwood would be a choice for me also those 4 areas are equal, there homes are not under 100,000 and if so not to much less than 100,000 but they are worth it. I put a link below so you can put in what ever area you want to view and you can see what is what.

It's all a matter of opinon. I haven't lived there for a while, but i still visit monthly. My feeling is that all those areas have different flavors, if you will. The Woodlands is fairly structured and elegant, while Spring is more relaxed and has a certain charm. Pearland is booming; used to be just out in the country but growing really fast now, while Friendswood is closer to the coast if I'm not mistaken. I think Friendswood was originally a development of Exxon; I don't know if it still is. The best thing is to go down there and just look around. I don't know if prices are important, but I think they vary widely in those areas.
