Im headed to vegas and wanted some advice- should i get a vacation package or book hotel and airfare seperately? Not trying to be too extravagant. =)

I've been there. If you are not used to going to strange cities (and Las Vegas can be pretty strange, but it's not so bad), then get a package. Then, all you have to do is find a way to your hotel and a way back to the airport (heck, I walked the 2 miles or so to the strip).
What you will notice, though, is how many cheap hotels there are offering much better rates than what you paid for online.

Packages should be cheap these days because of the hit Vegas has taken economically. Flights too.

Don't bother with fancy hotels because you won't be spending much time there anyway (except for the several hours of sleep you get each night). Even if you do spend a lot of time there, most rooms are not designed to encourage staying out of the casino, if you know what I mean. If you do go for posh rooms, expect to get one as part of a package or pay a lot.

Get acquainted with the bus or walking there, because taxis will rip you off like only a 3rd world country can. ($20 from the Strip to Downtown, 3 miles, readily accessible by bus during the day). Negotiate with them just like you would if you were in Cairo, Egypt, BEFORE you get in.

Have a great time and be safe and responsible! There are plenty enough ways to be neither.

Oh Gosh! !Cand! ... yer going to have a good time!
I don't know.
I think with a Vacation package, you'll get a lot of fun little things like tons uf free coupons fer food, an' maybe gambling, an' maybe 'Shows' ! :)

I would probably book a hotel and airfare seperatly...When I went to California (from Georgia) that's what I did..I didn't really save that much money but when I booked my airline it was 1st class and when my sister got the vacation package one time she was in like a crappy airplane..(no offense, but ya know). Well anyways have a safe trip! :) and do what you think is right.

Price it both way online. Only take a few minutes. Seeing that it is your first trip to Vegas you should read this site. It is great for first timers. A lot of good advice you would never think of.

You can usually get the packages cheaper when you purchase everything together! Most airlines can book everything online for you! Good luck!

If it is non peak times, you can do it on your own.

Book Hotel.

Price it every possible way on line. Most services charge a fee that they include in the price. It isn't a lot but it is still an extra fee. Also, they do not always have all the possible options.

My rule of thumb is to book the flight directly on the airline's web site for the best fare and use Promo Codes, if you can find one for the hotel and dates you will be there.

You definitely want to stay at a hotel on the Strip. The closer to the center or Southern end the Better. Hotels like the Stratosphere or Circus-Circus are too isolated. Below is a map of the Strip that shows were the hotels are located. Any hotel on either side of the Strip from Treasure Island to Mandalay Bay is your best bet. You can walk pretty much everywhere you want to go.

There is a lot of walking so take advantage of anything you can to avoid unnecessary walking. You will not believe your eyes when you see the scale of the Hotels, the over-the-top opulence and sheer size. There are more than 20 hotels on the Strip each with its own attractions, sights, eateries and shops. For example, Planet Hollywood has over 100 shops.

Depending on the length of your stay, besides sightseeing, I highly recommend seeing at least one show and dining at one of the top restaurants at least once. Get tickets for any of the Top shows before you go to Vegas. They are difficult to get once you are there. You will need reservations for dinner at most of the best restaurants but you can just call or ask your hotel consierge to assist you.

Good Luck! You are going to have a heck of a good time!
